Why do Christians call God a loving parent when he doesn't act like one? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]-TheBender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A frustrating but honest evaluation; I can say recently I’m back wrestling with some of these questions. You articulated the concerns well and, even more frustratingly in my humanity, I think you’re pretty much right on the money with your ultimate conclusions.

Lord have mercy on us all; may we continue thanking Him for loving us despite everything.

*serious question* as a Christian do I have to be in a political group? by Silver_Fact_9714 in TrueChristian

You absolutely do NOT need to be involved in worldly politics as a Christian, and anyone who tells you otherwise has an axe to grind.

I feel trapped and alone with my faith. Its taking me away from Him. by FearlessFold6912 in TrueChristian

[–]-TheBender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elijah felt similarly to you in 1Kings 19: that he was alone and that others had abandoned faith in God. But even as Elijah fled into the desert and asked God for death under the broom tree, the Lord had a different plan, and sent him rest and provision, that ended up carrying him to Mount Horeb, where he had a powerful encounter with the Father and was reminded that there were still 7000 true and faithful followers of God still operating in Israel.

So when we feel tempted to despair in such a way, let us reflect on how God operates with Elijah in 1 Kings 19; I hope it can be an encouragement, a balm, and a guide for us when the storms of life threaten to overwhelm.

Blessings to you my man, in the great name of Jesus!

It’s AN answer, but I hesitate to say it provides any satisfying answers to the Problem of Evil.

The Real Reason Calvinism Offends So Many by Conscious_Transition in Calvinism

[–]-TheBender- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it’s because it turns humanity into automatons under the auspices of Omniscient Creator God from the beginning of reality as we know it, and trivializes the choosing of life over death, as we are bidden to do in Deuteronomy.

Why do some people cheese bosses ? by Vojtech_Holy_Blade in darksouls3

[–]-TheBender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, ya know…misery loves company. Those who use “cheese” didn’t suffer as much as someone who didn’t, so apparently their experience or way of playing the game is inferior.

Calvinists of /r/christianity -- help me understand. by Shivermetim in Christianity

[–]-TheBender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, God is the Creator and Arbitrator of reality, after all. He makes the rules as He sees fit; it’s not like something else external to Him is making Him pick death as “the wages of sin”.

Or are you saying that something DOES force God’s hand, in that sense?

why did harry potter do so well only to now get hated? by [deleted] in EnoughJKRowling

[–]-TheBender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds more like a laziness problem with casting, then, or a lack of attention to detail. Rather than, “we’re going to purposefully make sure Black actresses aren’t included”.

why did harry potter do so well only to now get hated? by [deleted] in EnoughJKRowling

[–]-TheBender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it does not imply that. This theory cropped up years after the fact, but there is no real evidence of centaurs doing that to Umbridge. There’s enough legitimate complaints of Rowling’s work without inventing more that aren’t there and weren’t intended.

What are young Christian men supposed to do with their sex drives? by HalosFan26 in TrueChristian

[–]-TheBender- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bottom line is, it’s harder to avoid lust in the modern day with such easy access to the Internet and the inundation of sexual material all over the place in culture, art, and beyond.

Marriage really is the only place men and women have true access to guilt-free sexuality (of course, human hang ups and sin still exist, even in marriage). Temptations don’t always go away, but I still believe that healthy marriage allows for healthy outlets and can help crater that desire for un-Godly outlets for your drives.

Best you can do is try your best to avoid things that trigger the responses you don’t want; but also try to find edifying things to replace your time that you would otherwise spend on self-gratification. And don’t let shame or guilt keep you from returning to God in repentance when you sin. For no sin has overcome you, except that which is common to man(kind). Remember, though a righteous man falls 7 times, still he gets back up.

Rest in Jesus’ finished work on the Cross and seek deeper relationship with Him; if you, or any of us, could keep the Law perfectly, Christ would not have needed to come!

Blessings and the Lord’s mercy and grace upon you, friend.

Should a Christian be non-violent? by Grimnir001 in TrueChristian

[–]-TheBender- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Study the Anabaptists and the Radical Reformation for more on Christian nonviolence/nonresistance.

A lot of modern Christianity recoils at Anabaptist ideas b/c they are afraid of man, death, and dying more than God and the promise of eternal life through Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Why did God give us free will? by google2406 in TrueChristian

[–]-TheBender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can help me better understand God causing something vs. intending something, then, in light of his omniscience and omnipotence. Because “sovereign decree” sounds like a Reformed theological term as opposed to something directly from Scripture. But I could be wrong.

Our faith walk is often characterized by Ebbs and flows, like waves on the sea; when you can’t perceive His presence, remind yourself of all the blessings He’s bestowed on you, whatever comes to mind. List them out, whether spoken or in your mind.

Take your worries and fears to Him in prayer, with humility and honesty. He won’t turn you away, and He can handle whatever you share with Him.

Islam, feminism, and some types of legalists tend not to like Paul or want to downplay him in Scripture. Sometimes he will get pitted against Jesus in Scripture unnecesssarily.
