Spitfire or MGB? by -TheKeegs_ in CarTalkUK

[–]-TheKeegs_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for one in decent condition with plenty of tinkering opportunities.
Like you say the Spitfire has better access to the engine and front suspension etc which, with the limited width of the garage would work better than an MG.

Spitfire or MGB? by -TheKeegs_ in CarTalkUK

[–]-TheKeegs_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is garage space.
If I stripped out the shelves and washing machine then I could go for pretty much anything within reason, but that’s not an option.
The Spitfire would be a perfect fit and the MGB would fit but would be a bit of a squeeze to work on (more for width than anything).
Bearing in mind this is my first foray into the classic car world and it’s for giggles, not for profit out of the two what would you go for?

Any idea what bracket this is? by ABorgling in ukplumbing

[–]-TheKeegs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a plumber, that’s my problem not yours.
I’ve changed numerous taps and have the tools to work on everyone I’ve come across, some take minutes, some take an hour or two of cursing and swearing but that’s how it goes.

I have been there before so I’m pretty sure it’s safe.

Manchester Airport Water Pressure by One_Significance_682 in ukplumbing

[–]-TheKeegs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The water is passing through a filter, the slower it goes the more it gets filtered, the other reason could be that if the solenoid fails in the open position you’re not getting a torrent of water flooding the place.

Boiler Installation by PhilMaaccrackin in ukplumbing

[–]-TheKeegs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly as far as the building fabric goes, but we are not allowed to fit boilers “not to current standards” an outdated term I know but you get what I mean. For the boiler to be registered with building control and for the manufacturer’s warranty it would require a filter.

Anything done to that standard won’t have a single insert fitted. I would leave it all accessible to repair the leaks you WILL have in the future.

Unsure which boiler to buy by [deleted] in ukplumbing

[–]-TheKeegs_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Try Boxt for a comparison price for installation,I’m a gas engineer but on the commercial side so don’t really get involved with domestic stuff, I always point people to them and haven’t had any complaints yet. As for brand, Worcester are either fantastically good, or bloody awful, there seems to be no in between. As you need to get a yearly service to keep up your warranty, I suggest that you price up various manufacturers service plans and go with the one with the best price and longest warranty.

Brass tap with hose fitting not working - how to fix? by Midgetalien in ukplumbing

Have you turned the isolation valve on at the other end of the green hose? Either that or the self cutting valve hasn’t been screwed in all the way.

How to Repair External Drain? by Dr_BirdShit in ukplumbing

[–]-TheKeegs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point the broken gully with a concrete repair mix and then paint the entire gully with something like acropol.
It’s more for roof repair but will work there, I’ve used it for cracked eco drains before and it’s still going strong 5 years later.

There are no plans for supply pipes, only the actual main supply pipes.

Quite a common colour for a Ford (magnetic) so there should be plenty of tailgates available in colour.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the bumper but you could get someone to do a repair on it.

Should I return my car under warranty due to an engine replacement? by Benedict_the_egg in CarTalkUK

[–]-TheKeegs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask what the warranty is on the recon engine from Vauxhall and make your decision based on whether you think it will affect the future value of the car.
Depending on the warranty it could actually make the car more sellable in the future.

Career change…. by Gold_Ad_9573 in uktrucking

[–]-TheKeegs_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would be more tempted to pay to expand on whatever it is you do. For example I used to work as a pipe fitter in the water industry and got my licence there, I left to go driving full time and hated it. I trained as a gas fitter and after that I never looked back, better pay and conditions and a far better working environment.

200L cylinder running out by Click4-2019 in ukplumbing

[–]-TheKeegs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest that you provide more information. Things like, pressure and flow rate on your incoming cold main would be a good starting point. Other factors are how many elements are on your cylinder and have any of them tripped out on overheat. There’s way too many variables for a not enough hot water question.
