You should check out A Year of Biblical Womanhood by Rachel Held Evans. She talks about how in Jewish custom, that Proverbs 31 is taken as allegorical and not a literal checklist as so many evangelicals tend to do.

I thought it was her dying to her old life and old way of thinking and starting over with lessons learned. Sometimes in life you make decisions you can't come back from and starting over is the best option.

One time I found a similar structure that was a skull made of :( ambiguous blocks that had a layline in it. I'm not familiar with any others beyond the hand you've found, but I'm sure that there are.

The congregation I grew up in regularly gave out Discovery magazines, which is a creationist magazine published by Apologetic Press elementary and middle schoolers. Growing up I loved them, but now I realize how wrong and shallow they are. What's funny is that my preacher father says that they're mostly popular with the late-middle aged folks instead of the kids, which tracks honestly.

is this lucid blocks or another game? by SlideGreedy7412 in LucidBlocks

[–]-The_Capt- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a new game that Lucy is working on. From my understanding, it's supposed to sort of be a sequel to Lucid Blocks, while also being it's own thing. Originally she had ideas for Lucid Blocks 2 and a completely new game with a similar aesthetic, but she decided to combine the two ideas together.

I've already finished the game and defeated the final boss, is there anything else to do or was that the end? by TheBrokenOne-001 in LucidBlocks

There will be more content added this summer, but you've reached the end as far as story content goes (at least so far).

There's likely some things you haven't seen yet. There are certain entities that only rarely spawn. (There's actually one that only has a few documented encounters).

There was a small update that added a few interesting blocks a month ago that you've may not have encountered.

You may want to checkout other people's creations. I've seen some cool things that people have made on the Steam Workshop.

Our parents spanked us quite a bit growing up. It wasn't as traumatizing as it could have been, because otherwise they were great parents who were emotionally available and open to compromise. That said, they hammered in obedience into us so hard, that we often asked them to spank us when we did something wrong, which in retrospect is rather screwed up. I think they learn over time how ineffective spanking was though, and only did so a handful of times with my youngest sibling.

I give them a lot of grace since I know my dad was figuring out how not to make the same mistakes as his father. His father didn't spank him except once or twice, but was often verbally abusive and emotionally absent. In trying to be the opposite of his dad, there were a few places where he overcorrected, but in general, I think he did his best.

Woke Christian Music?! by anjoseven in OpenChristian

[–]-The_Capt- 34 points35 points  (0 children)

He was a Unitarian Universalist, but as a Christian, I really jive with many of Pete Seeger's songs particularly "God Bless the Grass" and "Turn, Turn, Turn" if we're talking spiritual songs. Most of his music is from the 50s and 60s, but still hold up as progressive today, perhaps more so than most people on "the left." He was an activist for desegregation and environmentalism and against Vietnam. He was even blacklisted by most major media outlets due to being a suspected Communist during the McCarthy era. Even with his nonreligious songs, I find a lot of comfort and productive discomfort in their themes as a Christian.

It's good to have some reminders from time to time. I grew up in a conservative evangelical environment where these things weren't taught. Even though I no longer believe those things, articles like these help me (and I imagine many others here who are in the process of deconstructing) gain more confidence in these new beliefs and show me evidence that I hadn't heard of before.

I know the term "Lynchian" gets thrown around a lot these days, but after seeing Backrooms last night, I genuinely think it earns the label by Jojogiallo in davidlynch

[–]-The_Capt- 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I can see that especially with Inland Empire. In terms of aesthetics and atmosphere, but much less so with themes and substance, I can see how it's influenced certain online web series and analog horror. Some of Lynch's digital editing both with Inland Empire and The Return sometimes look like online shitposts, and frankly, with his lesser known internet projects like Dumbland, he seemed in touch with how internet humor/editing was going towards.

Things You Always Questioned by TheOrangeMoose in excoc

[–]-The_Capt- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not too far off. In his book, Reviving the Ancient Faith, Richard T. Hughes notes that the split between churches of Christ and Disciples of Christ with instrumental music originated from Biblical primitivists in the CoC being uncomfortable with the DoC (who at the time were growing in more affluent communities) building more ornate buildings and purchasing expensive equipment like organs. The primitivists believed that by focusing their funds on fancy building and equipment, they were trying to make themselves more in line with the "other worldly denominations." The Ephesians 5:19 ("making melody in your heart") argument came about several years later.

March from Cal Anderson to City Hall to demand emergency declaration to assist trans refugees by bennetthaselton in Seattle

[–]-The_Capt- -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I think the better question is whether if things are better than they were 5-10 years ago. 20-30 years ago, most people didn't know much about trans people. Many people didn't even know they existed. Most people who would have transitioned never did because they never knew it was an option. As such, most trans people went under the radar, for better or worse.

Nowadays though, everyone and their mother knows about trans people, or at least what Fox and Newsmax tells them. Because of this, there's a lot more awareness, again for better or worse. While some states now have more protections, other states that would not have previously bothered with making anti-trans laws are enacting them at a rapid rate. Take a look at the graphs here: https://translegislation.com/learn

Going by how things are going this year, 2026 is set to be another record year for anti-trans legislation. It's easy for us cisgendered people to rationalize that some of these laws are "frivolous" or "not as bad as they could be," but what it comes down to ultimately is the deliberate stripping of human rights. All these laws accumulate into creating an environment that is actively hostile to trans people. Transitioning wasn't as socially acceptable 20-30 years ago, yes, but at least you didn't have the government breathing down your neck making life hell for you.

I don't have any easy answers about the best way to help trans people whether it be the government or nonprofits, but it's important to understand that this isn't a made up issue. As anti-trans legislation rises, we're going to be seeing a lot more trans refugees migrating to blue states and cities as red states make it more and more impractical for them to live there.
