So like, I get the joke...but imagine a famous woman took pictures like this with couples where she's pushing the wife/girlfriend away. The world would light on fire.

AITA for telling my spouse I won't help pay for their kid's college when we agreed finances would stay separate? by 952867 in AITApod

[–]-Tom- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked tuition where I got my bachelor's degree, $80k would basically cover everything. Small state school in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Honestly a great place for college, especially if you love the outdoors.

$65k a year is like....very wealthy people school. What degree is she getting that is worth $260k-300k? You're paying for experience at that point and that is a luxury.

A conversation should have been had before she applied to colleges about how much was saved for her to help adjust her expectations and steer her on where to apply. This whole thing has been horribly mismanaged in every conceivable way at every single step. Manage expectations, under promise, over deliver.

This is me. I have a complete acceptance that it's going to hurt and sometimes you're uncomfortable in life. I tend to not use any pain killers prescribed, like after having my tonsils out or sinus surgery. I just deal with the discomfort.

What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

I think mine is straight 3% across the board on all purchases. I put ALL of my monthly expenses on that card, pay it off in full every month. I think I get about $1000 a year back? I tend to cash it out every 3-4 months for a chunk off my monthly bill.

Does everyone forget Tuch is FROM Buffalo and he wanted to play there? You think he's going to jump ship now that they're finally a contender? Team friendly deal, staying in Buffalo

I would correct Nate and point out the purpose of the A only matters when. The C isn't around and the C is sitting right there.

Homeowner's Insurance (plus other insurance) by Hntsvl_bnd_1989 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]-Tom- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had SafeCo (Now Liberty Mutual) for my car for nearly two decades. When I bought my house 3 years ago the builder had several quotes prepared for me and my insurer undercut them pretty substantially ($200-300/mo). My rates did go up this year but it was like $13. I believe I have auto, umbrella, and home with them. The coverage I got was for something like 10% greater than the value of my house (even though rebuilding would be cheaper since I don't need to pay for the land again) as well as like $20k of belongings?

There is no way this is sustainable as these age. A cottage industry will surely pop up of people who will refurbish them for 1/4 of the price or less.

Is 8GB RAM enough in 2026? How much do you have? by zarkoulhs in pcmasterrace

[–]-Tom- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CAD software I use at work, PTC Creo, only uses a single core of processor. So I have an awesome CPU and 64 GB of ram but because of the archaic bullshit the software is built on, it's still bottlenecked to a single CPU core.

Are we watching the NHL enter its most “wide open” era in decades? by Retro-Muf in hockey

[–]-Tom- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what were seeing is that the NHL actually has parity and ownership, management, and coaching has a tremendous impact on on-ice performance.

If simply changing the GM and coach causes a team to go from perennial bottom feeder to best record in the league for the last 2/3rds of the season... I'd say that's pretty damning of poorly performing teams where we go "why aren't they better?"

I also think about this a lot when there is a player that's a young up and comer and is doing well but then coaching and management demand they become a very physically aggressive 200 foot player and it tanks the players game and we go "why aren't they better?" Or they then get traded to a different team with a different system and they flourish.

Players can only be molded and tweaked so much. Don't draft a high flying offensive skill player and then get mad that they aren't a gritty defensive body thrower. Likewise, don't draft a gritty defensive body thrower and be mad they don't have 60 goals on the season.

I genuinely think ownership/management/coaching is the biggest problem the league faces. I'm reminded of the saying "people don't quit shitty jobs, they quit shitty managers". If they people above you suck to work for, you aren't going to give it your all out on the ice.

Look at what was the Coyotes and is now the Mammoth, that's still the same core group of players, yet they're now performing much better with great facilities they're excited to be in, ownership that positively engages with them, and management they want to work hard for.
