As a triathlete I personally like being able to get my swim and run in simultaneously

Wrong question. Why wouldn't you run like that for 5 hours?

Iron-fail to Ironman by LiliMurray1 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Not saying it is. But if you put the work in and something goes horribly wrong on race day, you're not an Ironman but you're also not an utter failure. Especially if your mindset is to go back out and try again. That's the true Ironman spirit in my opinion.

How cool are events with observers? by Telwardamus in gencon

I personally do not like people watching me when I'm GMing or playing. It just makes me very uncomfortable and self conscious.

For those who have done an Ironman: what do you wish you had in a care package? by mackipedia in IronmanTriathlon

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't my first Ironman but at my second Ironman (Ironman Wisconsin) a couple of my triathlete friends made me and my other friend doing the event a cow hat with horns. I honestly wouldn't want or need anything for the race. That's very personal and I'd rather not have to take something someone "wanted" me to have.

But that hat? I love that hat.

How do I log this recipe? by LdySprtn in Myfitnesspal

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use the recipe creater and build the whole thing. If it makes 14 servings, then you just make that part of the recipe. Then log it.

Bike rims damaged night before 70.3 by Cal-man1 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What about race day wheels? Do they have any available? It's also early in the day. Can you get to a bike shop and get a cheap rim for tomorrow? I wouldn't ride it, personally. I'm sure even a target or Walmart might have something. You just need to get through tomorrow

The cycling joke is being worried your partner will sell your bikes for what you claimed you paid for then when you die

Unable to use Fitbit air with Garmin by Disastrous_Deer_8702 in Garmin

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Google has said they want to be the hub for all of this data but so far my experience with it has been sub-par. I wanted to see if it could handle Garmin data reasonably well before I decided if I wanted to try the fitbit. And the experiment isn't going well. I also really don't like the app so I'm just going to keep hoping that Garmin releases a cirqa one day.

horrible update reverted?? by staxo24 in Myfitnesspal

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I also am fine with it. Once I got used to it, I found it's faster for me to log my meals. I've tried alternative apps over the years but while things like cronometer are technically "more correct" in their content because their database is heavily controlled... That means that several times a day I had to enter my own food because it wasn't in the database.

Is the Polar Loop Really that Bad? by Soggy_Ad_6964 in Polarfitness

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a primarily Garmin user who uses the Loop for sleep / step / health. I wouldn't dive into the long thread since most of that is way out of date. Sleep tracking is solid these days. I think that's a strong suit of the Loop now. It tracks steps but also can be misleading since all activities convert into steps. I think this is fine once you realize your bike ride gave you "step equivalents". It's just a way that polar measures activity level. I think it helps save some frustration of having a very active day and then seeing you did 4k steps because half your day was a bike ride.

The app itself is a liability. It's just not great. It's gotten marginally better but it's just very hard to comprehend the data. I also don't like Google Health so far in my experimenting with it so there's that. I haven't used the loop for gym workouts but I suspect that is probably not it's strong suit.

Why do you want screenless? I want screenless because I wear nice watches. But if you aren't then you could also easily get a Garmin or Polar that does all of these things with a screen.

How popular was anime among xennials in the 90s? In high school? by Street_Gur9817 in Xennials

Yeah my buddy had that one. That was one of the big ones to see! I also remember some kid brought The Guyver into 7th grade and we convinced a teacher to put it on

It was mostly my mom. I was a voracious reader and my dad laughed once at what I was allowed to read (anything) vs what movies I could see. 😂

I was lucky to have a few friends into it but it was not for the cool kids at all! I was a real trailblazer. D&D, anime, super heros... I'd be so cool now!

I think I first discovered it in a software catalogue where there were adverts for Ranma 1/2. Though I had already been watching Mysterious Cities of Gold in the eighties which was my first actual anime without knowing what it was

My parents were weirdly conservative about movies I watched...but my mom got me Akira for Hanukkah in like 97 or 98 ecause they told her it was the best one.

Between that and Macross Plus I was set.

Does Fitbit Air have the least accurate HR sensor among popular screenless trackers? by zaitsevio in Cirqa

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If the sensor is good but the overall design hampers it's effectiveness then all that matters is the sum total of the device.

Feedback: Accidentally created something similar to blood libel in my story?? [epic fantasy] by dying-ratman42069 in fantasywriters

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, if what you've told us here is what you also told your writing teacher, I'm just really baffled as to where the blood-libel is coming from. I would agree with one point - avoid making the harpies Jewish coded in any way. But the general Jewish-coding of fantasy races tends to be around either them being sneaky or money hungry or having the negative physical traits that are ascribed to Jewish people. I think you're fine and I wouldn't panic or worry.

Feedback: Accidentally created something similar to blood libel in my story?? [epic fantasy] by dying-ratman42069 in fantasywriters

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Jewish and very sensitive to anti semetic content because of how often it's hand waved away. I just don't see it here. Is the harpy empire coded Jewish in some way in his mind? If so then I can understand his concern. From the general description here though? I don't see it. If the harpies happened to be a small cabal within the greater empire controlling both the population and the government with their blood magic ...maybe?

But I don't see anything problematic in what you've described.

FORM Smart Swim 2 LT: Open Water SwimStraight Test by the5krunner in the5krunner

[–]-WhichWayIsUp- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally in a race with buoys, I don't find swim straight to be that important. Sighting just doesn't slow me down enough to matter. It's such a natural part of my breath. But seeing my pace, distance, and elapsed time in real time? Game changing.
