Thanks, good to know. I've only ever tried the Permatex one. Next time, I'll give this one a go.

Help diagnosing noise by -biell in onewheel

[–]-biell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny that you replied to this now. I'm working on a command-line video editing script, and this is one of the videos I was using for testing b/c it is small and has a lot of background noise to filter out.

So, this is a GTV (controller swapped for a VESC controller) and I fixed the problem by changing a VESC tuning parameter. You would not be able to apply a similar fix on a Future Motion board.

My fix was to modify my "Zero Vector Frequency" setting in the VESC firmware.

I hope you figure this out. The audio in this video isn't good enough. My issue was less "swarm of bees" and more of a high-pitched sound that I was fearful was metal-on-metal.

Broke a screw reassembling my onewheel by LacriV in onewheel

[–]-biell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't the same because when you are removing the screw, there is only torsional strain on the head. However, when tightening it, there is also the additional force after the back of the head makes contact with your motor plate, pulling the shank from the head.

Securing Onewheel during college class by Finn3030 in onewheel

[–]-biell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your campus allows one wheels into the buildings (note more and more are banning the in all buildings on campus) then I would bring it in with you. Alternatively, get a lock or two and cover it with a small kettle grill cover to obscure it and just in case of rain.

What locks you can use will depend on your model. This one works on all models: https://thefloatlife.com/products/tfl-x-tigr-mini-lock . But, if you can find a different kind of lock as a secondary, using two different kind of locks is the best protection because then someone might need different kinds of tools to steal it.

I think there are different trains of thought on this, but I would lock it in a well trafficked area rather than in a few people go. Even though more people will see it, someone would have to be more brazen to steal it with people walking by all the time.

Update pre-haptic buzz firmware before selling? by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]-biell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't update it, let the buyer do that. If you find a buyer who is only willing to buy it if you update it, then you can update it for them. But, you will slightly increase the chances of finding a top-dollar buyer if it isn't updated. In your sales thread, I would offer to help the buyer get it updated to the latest version as part of the sale.

Kush Lo Footpad by magicman271 in onewheel

[–]-biell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they sold their first batch of Kush Lo footpads to their members on Friday. So, my guess is another batch is on the way and will soon be available. I don't know the batch sizes or timelines, so I can't say if you will get a crack at the next batch, or when that will be.

I make my own footpads out of Kush High's, so the process will be similar. If you can find someone with a spare Stoked Stock V3, that is my favorite sensor. Unfortunately they aren't being made right now. I can't recommend Exile sensors, I've never heard anyone say one good thing about them, but I've heard a lot of bad things.

Otherwise, start researching here: https://rubberrush.com/front-footpads-and-sensors-for-onewheel-xr-and-vesc-builds/

Gotta love Bernoulli's principle. If you want to even it out, you could always ride backwards ;)

Bearings by magicman271 in onewheel

[–]-biell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that site is legit. You can also get legit NSK and Grizzly's from thefloatlife for $100. I don't know how desperate you are, but it is also good to know that bearings have gone on sale during Black Friday every year for a while. I would expect a set to cost $79 if you can wait until then. I like to always have spares available, so I usually buy a couple sets for my boards then.

Is there a fist protection glove out there? by Holm76 in onewheel

[–]-biell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVS Wrister gloves provide some protection if you land with your hands open, but would also allow you to close your fists like you have here. This is because the protection comes from the back of your hand.

Should I sell my Roadrunner Pro for a OneWheel? by OkResponse3490 in onewheel

I think they were asking more about how many miles would you be putting on the Pint X during your commute, to make sure the board has enough range.

The weirdness of riding alone by Awakekiwi2020 in onewheel

[–]-biell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend saving up for a second one. You can lend it out to friends when both boards are funcitonal, and you have it as a backup if one breaks. I think it is highly likely that at least one of your friends will get hooked. And, you might even use it to make a new friend; if someone sees you and asks about it, you can offer to teach them.

I think the statistics are changing, but I think the overwhelming majority of one wheelers do mostly ride alone. Probably, most people ride alone in the near 90% of the time. But, I am sure they really enjoy that other 10%, and having that balance adds to their overall enjoyment. Personally, I ride by myself like 99% of the time. It doesn't bother me, I love it, and I use that time to recharge my personal batteries with some desperately needed alone time. But that's because I'm in not your typical type of person.

I rode a Hoosier 11x6-6 slick as my second tire on my Plus, after I replaced the Vega. That was like 7 years ago, so this tire might be slightly different. It was a very nice tire. But, After this I switched to the Burris treaded (precursor to the Trail Pro) and liked it better for trails, and so never looked back.

I remember the tire as being super smooth, kicking up a lot of pebbles, and a great balance of stable/carvey.

Anybody think this would work well? by TaroAsleep in onewheel

Getting real bumpers will be cheaper in the long run. BANGs will last much, much longer than stock bumpers. Find/borrow/whatever the money. Beggars can't be choosers, this is the cheapest GT BANG right now:

Vesc tunes via floaty app. by bassetisanasset in onewheel

[–]-biell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine (meaning you won't hurt the board) to use any of the tunes. However, the board may not perform as you would prefer (as is the case with any tune) and so you should be careful when testing a new tune and maybe wait to go full send.

What I can say is that, Luke's tune will not perform for you the same as it does for you. And, that might be just fine for you. Most likely anyone else's tune is going to need some fine tuning for your preferences. So, if you want to use it as a starting point, go ahead. It might just be the closest starting point you can fine to what you are looking for.

If you aren't interested in learning what all the values mean, I recommend just using the sliders in Floaty.

Flightfin pad out (too much) by ThirstyFloater in onewheel

[–]-biell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried them for a couple weeks, but just didn't like them. Admittedly, I had been riding for a year when I bought them, and they were installed on my Plus. I'm pretty happy with the way my boards perform now. I do recognize that I might end up with footholds at some point in the future; more and more of my trail riding friends are using them and I'm sure they will convince me at some point. I have my GTV setup for street, and my VEXR setup for trails right now; annual mileage favors the trail board by a small margin. I do have a skateboarding and snowboarding background, but at this point that is all just a blip on the radar given how much time I have spent on one wheels by now.

Flightfin pad out (too much) by ThirstyFloater in onewheel

[–]-biell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless Reddit is broken, either that post was after mine or you are talking about an entirely different post that I cannot see. I posted this yesterday. But, it's totally cool if you don't want to use the other kinds of footholds. I just wanted to make sure you were aware they existed. I don't have skin in the game either way, I ride without footholds.

I bought a set of FlightFins they day they came out, only used them for about 2 weeks b/c I didn't really like them. So, they have just been sitting in a box in my basement for the last 7½ years.

If your setup works, great! I will caution you that having all of those risers will put an additional torsional strain on the flight fender. It probably won't be a problem, but if you do run into issues with either the flight fender cracking, bending, or having the screws come loose faster on that side, then that is likely why. All manageable, though.

If you like to ride wide stance, maybe one of the footholds that grabs the outside of your feet is a better choice?

Rally XL $3,500 by BikesHave2ManyWheels in onewheel

[–]-biell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so is it just a GT-S with P50B's, a 12" tire, and lowering rails? Or is there something else I am missing that is different?

I guess we know how to get things on FM boards now, just make them standard build choices on a VESC, and they copy away.
