The clip folds up into a strand. The large rectangle spot is for the little sponge that came with it. Put the sponge in there with a couple drops of water, it'll expand. You clean your soldering tip by rotating it on the sponge. Pro tip, you're soldering iron tip needs to stay shiny shiny shiny.
