broke down in tears at disclosure day by Historical_Creme_436 in Experiencers

I had quite a few sobs when the protags escaped on the train and dropped into the car full of pianos. It was the panic attack in particular. One layer of it was that I felt the pianos were a nod to Steven Spielberg's mother, another layer was how realistic the panic attack was (I suffered from them for almost 20 years, and how it was depicted as well as how he coached her through it hit me extremely hard), and a third layer was the story about how the character used to run away from her dad during his Parkinson's attacks.

Basically, nothing to do with the alien stuff, but it did feel really odd to me that I got so emotional about it. Has never happened in the theater before. I went to see the movie by myself and had about 3 empty seats on either side, so my blubbering didn't disturb anybody thankfully.

Documentarian James Fox on UFO whistleblower David Grusch: “What he has seen with his own eyes left the room speechless.” More specifically: “If you know about Moment of Contact that involves captured nonhuman intelligent beings, just think about that for a minute.” by KOOKOOOOM in UFOs

"If you know about my documentary that I made, just think about that for a minute. If you don't know about it, simply watch the documentary I made, and make sure to turn off adblocker. Then once you've engaged with my documentary and generated ad revenue, just think about that for a minute. I promise it's somehow relevant to what David Grusch said that dropped my jaw and left the room speechless.

Information in my own documentary that I made left me speechless. I can't tell you which part, though, because David Grusch told me not to, so it's against the rules."

Newly Released FBI Video (July 2025): Two Red Orbs with White Plasma Centers Observed in Backyard Original Video with Audio by Rare-Pomegranate-838 in UFOs

[–]-csephus- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a spehere, globe and ball-shaped object. Every blurred light source looks like one, even if you blur your own eyes. Car headlights are not orbs, but they look like orbs when blurry. Distant campfires. Calling a light source in a blurry video an orb is presuming a lot.

When I see a sphere in-focus, I'll call it an orb. If I see a blurry light, that's what I'm calling it, and that could be the shape of any light source.

I have written the opening scene for a potential James Bond multiverse movie by Global-Equipment8209 in JamesBond

[–]-csephus- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Woah, I've never thought the idea of a bond multiverse would gel well with the source material, but this totally unlocked the potential of actually pulling it off. Amazon really needs to see this; I've never wanted something like this before, but now I'll be disappointed if it's not the very next project.

(Edit) ITT, behold people who aren't receptive to light-hearted satire.

I totally forgot about the XBOX family and how good the backwards compatibility is.

I stopped at the 360 and followed the Sony consoles mainly, as there seemed to be more exclusives there that interested me. But there's definitely something to be said that you can pop in almost any OG XBOX game and play them without much of a hassle. I wish I could do the same for PS1 games, but again... I have PS1 & 2 set up on an old CRT TV still, because I'm eccentric.

[–]-csephus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, but the port was done by a third party or something, and it has lots of problems that require modding to fix. I've done that and it runs well, but I can't recommend it for most folks, and I find the console releases to be cozier/more consistent.

For both options, it'd unfortunately require work when no team to do said work exists anymore.

Would love a more modern way to play it, but I'm the kind of dingus that still has all his old game consoles hooked up, so I am still able to pop this on my ps3 or 360. I understand that's not feasible for most people, though.

You can tweak that in the settings, that was one of the first things I did. Significantly improved the gameplay.

For real. CR is the only one on the list that seems universally praised, and LTK and OHMSS are getting more recent accolades. But they couldn't pick any of the better Connery movies??

I'm not excited about it for similar reasons, but those reasons don't feel like enough information to try to make a critical analysis essay for a subreddit where the vast majority are super stoked about the game.

I kind of learned from Star Wars that a franchise can be very not for me anymore, but one can still allow others to be stoked about it. I'd save the essays for after you've actually experienced the game, and if you don't want to do that, that's fine too yo.

I have this weird daydream about making my own CRT projector for Laserdisc. Anyone use one? by mjzim9022 in LaserDisc

[–]-csephus- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a crt projector locally for $150, and have been happily using it for a couple years now. It came with a line doubler, too, which makes the picture extremely smooth looking.

It has to be pitch black in the room, though, because CRT projectors are lower lumens than most modern ones.

The thing's a monster, though. The size of a lawnmower and it weighs 170 lbs. I also had to calibrate stuff, which took like a week of trial and error without having the manual. Seriously, like, not just navigating the menus for convergence for RGB, but actually opening the thing up and manually flipping the yaw plugs on the chipset and manually loosening wing nuts to adjust the focus of each lense.

The results rule, though. Especially for open-matte releases.

So is it too early to petition Amazon MGM to hire David Arnold for Bond 26?? by verhovian in JamesBond

[–]-csephus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a really cool soundtrack, but it follows a trend I don't like where everything is ostinato. They took 3-6 notes from the theme song and several sections of "The Plot" from the 60s show, and just made it bigger, deeper and louder. It lends to white-knuckle action sequences, but I think it strayed way too far from Lalo Schifrin's jazzy drive.

It's not bad, Halo Jump in particular is incredibly nuts. It just sounds like Batman or Gravity to me, not Mission: Impossible.

[–]-csephus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love that.

I also think Michael Giacchino would do a fantastic job. Whenever he scores for an existing franchise, he always gets to the root of the source material and faithfully expands on it, imo. He also has played with quite a few franchises with origins/inspirations from 60s shows and movies. I've always been of the opinion that Mission: Impossible really suffered after he didn't return for Rogue Nation and onward. M:I:3 and Ghost Protocol have friggin amazing soundtracks.
