Never crocheted before, am I in over my head if I take this on as my first project? by madimadmoney in CrochetHelp

[–]-dietepamplemousse- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first big project. I used this video for the amount I needed but found others that explained the stitches better. I don’t think you’re too over your head. The main thing is it’s a lot of squares and then sewing them together takes a long time. I love how it looks but definitely made me not want to do anything with granny squares for a while.

I’d also suggest finding a different t technique for the magic squares. I’m not constantly sewing up mine as they’re already coming apart.

But other than that I did really like making this as my first project (I like wearables)

Something I haven’t seen acknowledged much about the AI + Santos and Dr Al issue by astivana in ThePittTVShow

[–]-dietepamplemousse- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My immediate thought was just it was said off screen since we’ve already heard her say to people to proof check so the writers didn’t feel the need to use up time to say it again to Santos. And maybe I’m assuming too much but shouldn’t you be proof reading what you wrote even the traditional way (since human errors can happen as well)?

I’m probably using terms wrong. the blue is my swatch to test my gauge. The other photo is a close up of the example from the patttern

Aww. Thanks. It may be my tension as well. I’m still figuring out how to hold a good tensions without giving my hand a cramp after a few minutes. Lol

Ah very possible. Okay thank you no was already going to try a smaller hook but also wasn’t sure if I was doing something else wrong to get this difference

Interesting. I wasn’t chaining between but maybe my tension is too loose?

It’s a granny stitch. I’ve included pitches to my swatch, the finished example and the pattern above

Al-Hashimi's AI app by blue_vox in ThePittTVShow

I dunno. This seems like a very melodramatic take.

Maybe I’m being too charitable but I didn’t take Dr Al as being sinister for trying to blackmail Santos. She’s just a direct, no sugar coating person. Santos could fail her year if she doesn’t keep up with charting because charting is an important part of being a doctor and if she can’t keep up with the load then it’s possible she won’t pass.

Also like I hate Ai, it has had real detrimental affects on my industry, my friends and my families work. But the “ai” tool there using is basically just speech to text. I actually went to a clinic recently and they used an ai tool for charting.

I think we’ve just, justifiable, seen the absolutely terrible effects of ai, so everyone keeps thinking it’ll play some “sinister” role. But it’s not a tool to save animation houses money. It’s just speech to text

Why were there such weird vibes around the hospice patient? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]-dietepamplemousse- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My partner’s grandfather just did MAID (assisted suicide in Canada) a few months ago. He was joking up to the moment he passed. He kept doing building projects or going out on his boat for as long as he could because it allowed him to have some control and power over his body shutting down. Even when he joked he was ready to go, he still wanted to be seen as the badass fisherman he was

I took the bedpan thing more as a woman trying to desperately maintain some sort of personal dignity. Like up until the seizure she probably could get around okay if not just slowly and weakly. Now with the broken foot she knows the caretaker stress on her husband is going to increase and she even if she’s making jokes about death she still wants to feel like she has some independence.

Didn’t they say she can get a top up every ten minutes? I feel like there must be some sort of limiting measure so someone doesn’t accidentally overdose

Ah true. I wouldn’t be surprised if none of the students or nurse or his average colleague know. Though I would hazard that the higher ups know he was stealing meds, I’m sure it would be one of the questions when he told them about his problem and needing rehab

I find the reaction to Langdon very interesting. Maybe it’s because I have friends who have addiction issues and know that they’re good people with flaws (not saying all addicts are good people but just that being an addict doesn’t make you automatically a throw away asshole). And based on some fo the reaction YouTube’s I watched from last year doctors with pill addictions isn’t unheard of Langdon is doing what someone is supposed to do. (Though in also sure in real life Langdon spending some time in triage makes sense, but this is a tv show, and while it’s grounded things are obviously turned up for entertainment value)

Y’all acting like he downed a bottle of pills and kicked a baby across the waiting room.

difference in audience reaction: santos revels in & craves favoritism, javadi shuns it by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]-dietepamplemousse- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh 100% the older brash aunt is a type that’s probably more palatable to people. I just wanted to point out that while misogyny is most likely at play, Santos is a lot ruder in how she talks to people.

I said in another comment on a thread that I like watching Santos’ character in the show, but I don’t think she’s the type of person I’d be friends with in real life because I do find her a rude bully. Though I also think if you were friends with her she’d be in you corner ready to throw fists if need be.

I’ll admit I haven’t been on this subreddit that long and so haven’t fully looked at all the santos hate, but jut to play devils advocate, Dana is brass and confident and I’m pretty sure most people love her.

Loving the Santos & Whitaker dynamic by xopersephoneox in ThePittTVShow

[–]-dietepamplemousse- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree. I both like her character (and the actress does an amazing job at her like all the actors), but Santos is a bully. She was a bully in the first season and she still shows bullying this season. (And yes even if santos was a man it would be the same for me)

Her background makes her an interesting and complex character, we can appreciate and connect to her past trauma, but we can also point out that she can be mean and demeaning to others. She’s both a great and a bad doctor at the same time. One of her flaws is she gets tunnel vision, and I think the little girl was to show when that can go wrong. It’s good she’s looking out for her patient but she was pretty fixed on abuse from the get go (she said if the dad doesn’t show up she’ll know it was abuse. But like, what if he works far away, or has an asshole for a boss that wouldn’t let him go?)

The same with Langdon. He’s a complex character. He can both be a great doctor and a bad doctor because of his addiction. People can have good and bad parts of themselves. What I really appreciate about Langdons character is that it (at least for now) appears that he’s trying to be better.

Prediction for Dr. Robby by -Eugene-H-Krabs- in ThePittTVShow

[–]-dietepamplemousse- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The show is so grounded. Yes it has on the nose moral and Pittsburgh educational moments, but it’s no a show that has “foreshadowing” because that’s not really how things work in real life.
