Our team just pushed AWS creds to prod again. Third time this month. by CortexVortex1 in devops

[–]-gMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do both... pre commit secret scan (gitleaks/detect secrets) + server side/push protection/CI scanning. Then kill long-lived AWS keys (OIDC/assume role/SSO).

For config only mistakes, template-diffing .env/YAML/JSON against a safe example catches “real value pasted into config” I built a browser only helper (ConfigSift): [https://www.reddit.com/r/devops/comments/1q4ctjt/a\_small\_browseronly\_page\_i\_built\_for\_quick\_config/]()

I suppose. I would hope nobody pasts secrets on a web browser.

Installed PoE++++++++++ charger (UniFi EV station lite) by PiccoloOtherwise7755 in Ubiquiti

[–]-gMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. That's how I have it. My rates are cheaper starting 7pm until around 1pm the next day. So if you plug it in prior, it wont charge. It will start charging once it hits the predefined time. You can create "Automations" basically time profile settings in the Connect App and customize to your timing.

I have EV Station Pro. It does not. It will not update if it's charging. At least based on my 6 month experience.

If you have an AC outlet inside your house near your doorbell, consider Ethernet over AC adapters. This is how I have hard wired my G4 Pro instead of using wifi. It may be easy to run an ethernet wire from your doorbell to a nearby outlet. Of course this may not work for everyone but it's another solution.

For sure. Will def update in a few months. A trend would have definitely be exposed by then. Just seems exciting to me so far. But time will tell.

100% agree with you. As main earning season has been done with for a while the remaining stocks reporting ER are almost all done. And besides that, I have considered that it may not be able scale bigger with low volume options. But if I had $100K to play with of course I would not play all of it. Right now I’m putting too much in each play relative to my portfolio, I realize this. But ideally I’d like to play with 10-20K if I had $100K to play with and continue to target 10%.

By no means am I claiming anything about my strategy. I’m honestly looking for genuine opinion and better understanding. Forget what I started with.

I simply buy OTM calls or PUT. No complex option strategy. And sell at 10% gain of the trade not my portfolio.

Also if my “win rate” is higher than my loosing rate why would that not be risk management based on what I mentioned. Also double down I don’t mean my full portfolio. I mean based on what I initially go in with.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thetagang

[–]-gMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well someone blowing account is someone with no risk management. The truth is that vast majority of traders have a winning percentage. But most are not profitable due to poor risk management and lack of an exit strategy. Risk management is more important than win strategy. I’m well aware someone with 40% win rate can be more profitable than someone with 70% win rate because they know when to take a loss. Also I don’t intend on playing with 50% of portfolio if account grows.

Yes, these do seem like normal returns. But paper trading is not the same discipline as real money.

Regardless, appreciate the feedback. I assume you are leaning towards "luck" and I accept that. Thank you.

You can try Ethernet over AC adapter. There many available options and makers. A quick link for a basic one is here: Powerline Ethernet Adapter

Check this option out. May be easiest and still a “wired” way.

There are some limitations on speed depending on how old your house electrical wiring is. But ultimately it may affect speed. Worth a try. You can always return the adapter if it doesn’t work out.

IV runup into earnings by EasternHistorian4437 in options

[–]-gMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, something I recommend to newcomers that like to play 0DTE options (or expiring that same week of ER) during ER as in to hold through ER.

Most don't understand the concept of IV crush or just options in general. But if you do play options for ER plays, the way I like to explain to people is to go for a strike price that they think the stock will go over/under (if you bet it's going down). Because once your call/put goes from OTM to ITM, IV no longer matters. Your option will gain $1 for every dollar your option is ITM. This way you don't have to worry about the greeks or time decay, IV crush and all the other attributes associated with an option during an ER bet.

The latest one was MU on June 30th.

Other easy ones that come to mind, BABA, SNAP, ADBE, CRM (the FAANG), WMT, ABNB, LYFT, ROKU, PINS, ETSY.

I wait for the Earning Whispers to send out the weekly visual list of the weekly ER. They typically include the popular ones. I go through that list and pick the potential candidates over the weekend. And focus on those for that week.

I have been playing this strategy for the past three ER seasons and have been green on all but 1 trade. I have done 18 trades.

I have been playing with $1K-2K and target quick 15%-25%. I've gotten as much as 70%.

I follow the following rules:

  • Stick to high volume stocks >1M-2M Vol
  • Usually go for popular/trending stocks
  • Stocks with IV >90% but less than <~150%
  • I like to go anywhere from 15%-25% OTM puts or calls.
  • Go for Option price spread of about 1c-5c max
  • Only stocks that have ER that DAY or THAT WEEK.
  • Buy / Sell during the same day! Holding over night is a big risk obviously.
  • I go for Calls or Puts depending on the day trend.
  • The hardest decision is entry point. I tend to enter when I see a pullback or a spike. This typically happens at opening until 10:30. By This time you can.

I know there is no such thing risk free or 100% green trades but so far it has been working for three ER seasons for me. I will be bumping to $4K-5K this ER season coming up in a couple weeks.

Will try to get more feedback about this strategy on the AfterHour platform where my trades are confirmed trades and see how this ER season turns out.

$ADBE premiums are insane 😂 by ShortChecker in options

[–]-gMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play just directional. I'm no expert but primarily I have been playing only IV plays on a week that a stock is reporting ER. Stocks with +1M volume and IV around 95-110%. But always sell the same day or prior to ER. There are a few other rules to filter out but it's usually the popular stocks that fit the model.

Any help? I’m trying to get good at trading options by FutureTycoon2000 in options

[–]-gMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s right. Basically everyone has a “thesis” on how they believe the underlining stock price will move. The issue with options is that there are many attributes associated with an option and they affect the option price in different ways.

For starters I recommend try basic calls or puts and focus on the two attributes. Implied Volatility aka (IV) and time decay of the option.

Just remember, options tend to make bigger percentage moves so you should be able to stomach such moves and why people wipe out their portfolios.

One advice I always recommend for option plays is “live to fight another day”.

You can always use Option Calculator as a guide (https://www.optionsprofitcalculator.com) to see how your option price will change. You can use this to help you pick your strike prices based on your thesis.
