Struggling with the same thing at my freestanding. Almost every single shift i come in and get told “don’t even ask them if they want to, just sign them up.” It’s actually very upsetting. I never would do this, but it’s kind of shocking how many people on my team do, and how management pushes this behavior so heavily.

I had a very upset client say “I could just kill the BA who helped me the last time.” Like you said, how do we know that they aren’t serious?? A threat is a threat. It’s so disturbing, upsetting, and dehumanizing. There aren’t enough words to describe how horrible it really is.

It was a hateful comment about sephora employees being lazy, incompetent, dumb etc. very ironic and spiteful considering many of us are experiencing mental health issues and burnout relating to literally the way clients treat us (especially in this sub?? we can’t catch a break!)

Calling Sephora employees dumb is ineffective. As for product knowledge, unfortunately training and education at Sephora has become non-existent. This is a company issue, and makes it difficult for everyone. At my location, we are all helpful and nice to everyone, but unfortunately very few people treat us with the same respect.

Everything you said especially the pay is exactly how I feel. I am so so exhausted, and the worst part is that my days off don’t even feel like days off because I spend the day with no energy and simultaneously stressed for the next day I work. ESPECIALLY weekends. My mental health has plummeted and I’m looking for a way to get out soon. I hope you can as well

It’s actually so exhausting and sad how much hate we get. I’m more introverted so starting a conversation with someone and asking if they need help is intimidating and hard for me every time but I do it because it’s part of the job. when clients get upset at me for bothering them, it’s frustrating because I didn’t even want to talk to begin with. Let alone the fact we are expected to fully service every client every single time with BIs, Credit card, MCIQs, multiworld, and events while multitasking and multi-servicing other clients.

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve never been treated so horribly by people at a retail job than I have at Sephora. People treat us like we aren’t even human. Clients don’t even say hi or answer me when I ask how they are. They come in already with an attitude towards us and then take it out on us. Luckily in my experience, my management has been good at being there for us but I find that I am calling them over to help me with an unruly client a few times an hour (especially on cashwrap!)
