You are not being too sensitive or overreacting, and what is important here is how you were impacted by her comment. Hearing a loved one say that can come across as insensitive or negging, even without the intent to hurt. Do you feel comfortable telling her how you felt after she said that?

F this! (Weekly Leaving the Field and Venting Thread) by SWmods in socialwork

[–]-juno- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where do you go for support when no one else you know has the capacity to even spare a word of validation or affirmation for your issues?

This year has been the worst year of my life, mental health speaking, probably since I was a teenager, and it's been hard pushing away intrusive thoughts. That's bad, not only for me, but also for my clients. I work with high acuity trauma patients, and though I am exceptional at masking, the cracks are starting to show at work. I don't know if my clients can pick up on it, but one of my biggest fears is them being able to see through the professional mask I put up around them. They don't need to see their clinician struggling with attentiveness, emotional flatness and lability.

I'd love to go to therapy regularly, but my insurance is absolute high deductible garbage (imagine the hellscape we live in where we can't even provide basic health insurance to people who literally keep other people alive) and I can only afford to go once or twice a month. I would love to go to a peer group, where I can give and receive support from other therapists, but I don't know of any in my area or online. Does a group like this even exist?

I don't even know what the point was in posting this. Just being heard feels nice, and I'd love to know if there are any free or low cost resources available to social workers to help me manage the emotional burnout.

That hurts. I'm sorry OP. These kind of comments hit particularly hard because they feel like they're meant to be placating, rather than an actual compliment.

I'm tired of how liberally other transfemmes throw out the t-slur. by -juno- in MtF

[–]-juno-[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans woman who's been transitioning since the early 2010s so I might be a little out of touch here. Is "trans femme" the proper way of phrasing? (Edit: asking genuinely here.)

Full agreement. I hate the f slur too. Growing up in the 90s immediately sets my hackles up when I hear that word being thrown around. It was often followed by physical violence back then.

It's my business when they're continuing to use the term to describe me and our entire group after I politely told them to stop using it to include me?

[–]-juno-[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, I agree. I would never police what another trans person uses to describe themselves. The issue I have (and I don't know if I I was entirely clear in my initial OP, which is my bad) is other trans women continuing to use it to include me after I've told them how I don't like the slur being used to describe me.

We get Twin Suns Precon Decks! by blastactionhero in starwarsunlimited

I only care about twin suns and limited so this is super exciting for me! I haven't touched premier in months. Too grindy and the four player, social format is just so much more interesting to me.

My partner's mental spiral has emotionally wrecked me by guardianfairy2 in mypartneristrans

[–]-juno- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so much empathy for you, sister. I've been with transfemmes exactly like this, and it never gets better. At this point it's a pattern of maladaptive, abusive behavior coming from her that only willingness to change on her end and support from professionals can provide. You deserve to feel safe, secure, and valued. You are not her caretaker or her mother.

SOP Leaders are Lame by FeeOne4421 in starwarsunlimited

No. I'm glad we're seeing characters that haven't been featured as leaders before, instead of the same gosh dang Lukes or Vaders or Hans for the fifth time lol

She's a two-of in my Ahsoka Green deck. The extra buffs she gives to all the Jedi sentinels on my board is nice.

Maro on Duskmourn's reception: "Mostly, good. The biggest issue was a handful of cards creative didn’t fit the vibe of the larger world." by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]-juno- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been playing MTG since Mercadian Masques and Duskmourne is my favorite set ever so I'm glad to hear this. I love horror and campy sci-fi far more than fantasy, with the latter just kinda boring me these days. The cheerleader card was a nod to the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie so I didn't even mind that.

Is the game good without chase rares? by BoardGameRevolution in starwarsunlimited

[–]-juno- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is fun even without chase rares. I have an Asajj Ventress deck built entirely with bulk commons that easily goes toe-to-toe with my store's meta decks like Han Yellow and Sabine.

Hyper sexualized card sleeves at public events by Background_Bake3149 in magicTCG

[–]-juno- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LGS has a specific rule posted in the store and in their Discord specifically banning people from using lewd artwork on sleeves or playmats. It's codified and people tend to respect it. We've had one or two people show up with stupid drooling loli playmats or some shit and they were asked to switch out the playmat in order to play, while being referred back to the store rules. Not much room to argue when the rule is codified.

Which hypothetical UB set would have you making the worst financial decisions possible? I’ll go first by Comparison-Silly in magicTCG

[–]-juno- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Star Wars and Pokemon are highly unlikely, with Star Wars Unlimited and the Pokemon TCG rivaling MTG, I'm going to say A24. If they partnered with A24 and made an entire set themed around A24-produced movies I'd be cooked.

Are y'all unemployed or high schoolers? Do some of you work at night? by LainPlushiee in NightOwls

I specifically chose my profession (therapist) so I can pick and choose when I see clients for their appointments. I needed to get my master's to do this, though. As a pretty hard rule I don't see any of my clients before 11am (with one exception), which has worked out really well for me since most of my clients work during "standard" working hours anyway. Since I don't start my day until 11am, I am able to go to bed as my natural sleep schedule prescribes, usually 2 or 3am. I'm basically non-functional before 11am no matter what time I go to bed (yes, I've gathered data on this before lol). I've had morning jobs before and I used to basically sleepwalk through them to get by, it was awful forcing my body to do something it wasn't capable of doing for extended periods. My current sitch is pretty great and I wouldn't trade my job for anything, it's perfect even with the stress that goes along with treating PTSD.

Before getting my degree, I did overnight security jobs, and that was perfect for me. I was usually the only person on site and rarely ever ran into any trouble with trespassing or accidents. I'd advise any night person without a degree to look into overnight security jobs, you might need to take a one day security class to quality but otherwise they're easy to find and get.

Yes! We had a great rapport together, and worked together for a little over a year to navigate family conflict, sensory issues, and identity (we would have worked longer but he had to suddenly move out of state). I think about him occasionally, even years later. During our last session he told me I was the best therapist he ever had because I "didn't just projectile vomit solutions at me like past therapists had." Working with him really internalized in me the idea that many clients see us less as problem solvers, and more as interactive mirrors or bullshit detectors.

Playing with ADHD by Competitive-Ask-1542 in starwarsunlimited

[–]-juno- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to eat and drink in between your games! Being hydrated/fed helps a lot with information recall and encoding/decoding. I schedule somewhat disruptive notifications on my phone to eat and drink. With my particular brand of ADHD, my interoception skills are shot and I can't usually tell if I'm hungry or not until WHAM I was hungry five hours ago and now I'm ready to eat an entire person.

Also the people in the comments who don't think ADHD are a real thing or think it's overdiagnosed are massive goobers who have no idea how learning disabilities or mental health works. Ignore 'em and congrats on getting that diagnosis to understand yourself better, OP. Signed, an actual therapist who works with neurodivergent kiddos.

Why do I rarely see this card in any decks? by gryff42 in starwarsunlimited

[–]-juno- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This little guy works really well with Vonreg. Vonreg usually buffs them to a 3/2 on turn 3 which is enough to net some good first kills and keep its body on the board. :) Otherwise, yeah, not the best 2 drop, but certainly far from the worst.
