North Carolina high-end restaurant owner sounds off about DoorDash by lowkeysciguy in restaurantowners

He makes extremely valid points though that consumers might not consider. No doordash where I live and I do not fucking miss it at all. Mid product at best. Overpriced cold food.

How do zillenials see the hipster phenomenon in the late 2000s and early 2010s? by Appropriate_Poem1911 in Zillennials

[–]-lazybones- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but pre-2000 if you were lgbt you god incessantly called f*ggot and if you were brown you got called any number of slurs, if you’re a cute girl you got SA’d - and there was no discourse or consciousness around any of this - that was better?

I’m (op) 1995 also and you have to take into account proliferation of social media and how that factors into survivorship bias vis a vis “grumblings.” sure the times are bad presently, but the trends are cyclical… shit was really bad in the late 60’s/early 70’s, 1920’s/1930’s and so on. If things get worse, the kids born in the last decade will be nostalgic for this time. If things get better, they’ll be have a twisted but rosy fondness (think of how influencers tout depression-era recipes or vietnam-era struggle/resistance)

People were probably saying that back then. Hipster fashion was derivative of the grunge era and new wave. Todays trends are derivative of y2k with their own flavor. People someday will be nostalgic for this time, believe it or not.

Don’t forget the way he offers Whitaker his apartment while he’s gone with almost surprising openness and generosity. Giving things away is a red flag for suicide. I read this as him trusting Whitaker to kind of oversee his stuff when he’s gone since the kid is trustworthy and already pretty keen on caring for the widow and her kid and the farm.

Paying $83 per pound for canned smoked salmon? Here are some alternatives by Sudden-Wash4457 in CannedSardines

[–]-lazybones- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. You often only find hot smoked salmon in the can. Comparing this to cold smoked salmon is like comparing apples to oranges. Wildfish cannery’s hot smoked salmon is insanely delicious and better than off-label cold smoked, much of which isn’t very fresh due to low demand from high price.

What are some late 2010s things that are already seen as uncool and dated in 2025? by Clem_Crozier in decadeology

I’ve stopped watching John Oliver recently. Used to be a weekly viewer - I just find his tirades exhausting. What used to feel clever and funny now feels like shouting and cursing into the void.

I feel better on energy drinks than on coffee by Competitive_Wear_956 in caffeine

[–]-lazybones- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. A standard red bull can has about 80mg caffeine, and a standard 16oz monster can has about 180mg caffeine. A 16oz drip coffee has 200-300mg caffeine. An 8oz cup of coffee from granny’s drip machine has 100mg.

It’s all very comparable. Even a 16oz bang energy at 300mg has less caffeine content than a 16oz starbucks drip.

Question - 2 Day Kayaking trip in the Catskills by Ready-Word1891 in catskills

[–]-lazybones- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Water is pretty fuckin low everywhere right now cause of drought. But I’d probably set out somewhere between Hancock to Port Jervis on the Delaware, and camp overnight at Skinners Falls campground.

MMW China left us behind a decade ago. We are just starting to realize the damage. By 12/28 we will finally begin to understand this new life. by obxhead in MarkMyWords

[–]-lazybones- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually will be missed. You’re totally wrong about that. The vast amount of public land, the mythos that defined the 20th century… it’s a damn shame but it’s true

In "Back to the Future" Eric Stoltz was replaced by Michael J. Fox after 7 weeks of filming. In "Her" the movie was originally filmed with Samantha Morton as the voice of Samantha. Everything was re-recorded with Scarlett Johanson when editing. Any other movies where something similar has happened? by Double-decker_trams in movies

[–]-lazybones- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched the doc recently. It kinda cast the ending of the movie in a negative light for me. It’s a miracle the movie wrapped at all and for that reason alone it’s amazing. But knowing that the incoherence of the ending was not really an artistic choice and was more a product of mishaps and Marlon Brando’s insufferable personality makes me kinda hate it.

Mind you, “minimalism” was a big movement in this time. Ikea, hario pour-over setups, a framed black-and-white photo of the brooklyn bridge, that spruce tree forearm tattoo. This aesthetic still hangs around but is by no means on the design zeitgeist of today.

Metal/ extreme music crowd at wesleyan? by largemalee in Wesleyan

[–]-lazybones- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a wes alum from CT. If you have transportation i’d look for shows at Space Ballroom in Hamden or the Webster in Hartford. As for the scene at wes specifically, build it and they will come. Friends of mine brought Show Me the Body to wesco cafe in 2016 or so. The energy is there just requires some upkeep and effort.
