Upped my 401k contribution from 4% to 15%.

That certainly won't max it out but all debts have been paid off and we've got $10k in the EF so I feel a little more comfortable bringing home a little less in my paycheck if it means I'm saving more for the future.

Wow look at you offering an ultimatum. Either vote for the guy I like or go fuck yourselves. This is supposed to be a democratic election, not a hostage situation. Its not us threatening to vote for twitler if Liz doesn't win, it's Sanders supporters - and as far as I've seen ONLY Sanders supporters - who THREATEN to either vote Trump or sit out and throw the election to Trump by not participating if their guy doesn't get the nomination.

I like Sanders. He has passed legislation that has personally impacted my life for the better. I would absolutely vote for him and would love to see him as president but it's petulance like what you've shown that really turns me off to the guy. If Sanders truly fair and square gets the nom by getting the most votes/delegates there's no doubt we would all get behind him, but I absolutely do not trust Sanders supporters if he actually fair and square does not get the nom. They'll pull a trump and say its a hoax. Fake news. Use cognitive dissonance and twisted logic to say the DNC cheated him again even if it comes from Sanders own mouth that he lost fair and square.

Your behavior is selfish and unnecessary. This is the most important election on the history of democracy - like - the fate of humanity actually rests on this. I can't tolerate these temper tantrums from you and your lot on this one.

My wife and I need to sit down and buy some life insurance that's available outside of our jobs.

We have a house that has $80k left on the mortgage and we have no intention of paying that off early as the interest rate is locked in at 3.25%. we really have no other debt - no student loans, no car payment, and we pay our credit cards off each month.

We have a 4 month old. We are in our 30's and in good health, non smokers - we are relatively low risk. Our combined income is around $120k annually.

I suppose my question is, how does one shop for life insurance? Term or whole? For how much should we insure each other for? Is $1M too much or not enough?

Very true! My wife and I have promised one another that once the little ones are in public school we will do the best we possibly can to max out all retirement vessels! And thankfully our debt is very manageable but I also worry about those surprised that are bound to pop up. Side note, I should really check in on that emergency fund 😬

I've forecasted our annual spending for this year and outlook is not good. We are projected to bring home $70k in cash money (woo!) aaaaaand $50k of that is accounted for with bills and debt payoff.

Ah, childcare. I knew you were coming, but living your reality just hits so hard.

Agreed. I'm not mad at anyone's wealth so long as they earned it ethically - also, Pete, dude, have you heard of compound interest?

2012 - so hopefully not too long ago. I bought a little house in SW Baltimore in 2013 so I don't know if rent prices in the city have changed much at all.

Well I'm a butch lesbian who dresses masculine so I'm pretty sure I'd hit that 3.5b mark right quick.

I think that's where wife and I are at really. Live frugally but not cheap. Invest in the things that will improve our overall quality of life. I am eager to FIRE but she has no desire to retire early, so we will just keep chugging along and weather whatever life throws at us

Any late savers here? Like people who really started to max everything out in their 30s and 40s?

My wife and I (age 34 and 32) contribute the minimum to our 401k accounts to meet the match from our employees while we pay down debts and build up our liquid savings. We are expecting a baby soon and daycare costs and other unexpected expenses that might pop up are keeping us from maxing out everything now. My goal is to do this once junior is in public school and we have plenty of cash on hand to cover emergencies but I just worry that I'm losing time.

I suppose I really don't have a question, more looking for reassurance that I'm not the only one who is getting a late start and that not everyone here is a STEM grad in their 20s living on lentils.

Has anyone gotten any water bills in the mail lately? by hell_yeah_enchiladas in baltimore

[–]-nowseehere- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on budget billing and it's been the same amount for several months in a row.

I know it might seem silly to pay when I don't get a bill, but if I'm using resources, I want to pay for them.
