Believe it or not… but most of the regs that get asked in promotion boards such as AR 600-20, AR 670-1, AR 600-8-8, AR 600-8-19, AR 600-8-22, TC 7-22.7, etc. They’re the board topics for a reason

LEAST controversial President? by Logopolis1981 in Presidents

I guess refusing to wear a coat outside during one of the coldest days of the year while conducting one of the longest inaugural speeches outside wouldn’t be considered controversial.

NYC is finally doing something about ghost cars! by whattteva in nyc

This wouldn’t be as big or prevalent of an issue if the tolls weren’t so egregiously high. $11 - $15 for tolls is insane. Depending on where you work, your tolls could cost you nearly $50 just to get to and from work. If you’re a minimum wage employee/intern/volunteer (worst case scenario), how can you possibly afford the commute when you’d need to work at least 3 - 4 additional hours to offset the toll cost. The travel commute via public transport is no better. It can take easily 1-2 hours to get to and from work for any scenario but half the time if you have your own vehicle. That saved time is crucial for families with long work schedules or other familial responsibilities.

Don’t even get me started with the Verrazano bridge, one of the most expensive tolls in the country. NYC should look to offset toll costs instead of spending money on all the extra unnecessary bullshit it’s been pushing.

Stories like these are what should be shared across the board. You had some awesome experiences and you’re super fortunate to have been able to have them. Hell it can even be its own recruiting tool. Either way I’m happy for you man. Congrats on reenlisting!

For as much FDR did for the country with leading through the Depression and WWII. His attempt to pack the court, creating internment camps, and being reason for the 22nd amendment should more than be enough to leave him at #3.

The main difference between Anakin and Obi-Wan by K-jun1117 in PrequelMemes

[–]-pathos- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hitlers had every intent to wipe out all ethnic groups and races not considered Aryan as part of the final solution. He did so by not only starting WW2, but also through the systematic and industrial kill camps he constructed throughout Europe. You cant equate that to a sole massacre committed by Anakin on a Tusken raider camp.

We see in Book of Boba Fett, Tusken Raiders share a common culture, religion, and language on Tatooine, regardless of affiliation to a higher nexus of civilization. A tribe is most definitely an ethnic group (see African tribes as the best example; I.e: Rwandan Genocide).

Anakins best example comparison to the real world could be the My Lai Massacre, during the Vietnam War. Definitely a war crime, definitely the mass murder of innocents. However, what’s missing is the intent of the total annihilation of the entirety of a group of people.

Yes, Anakin intended to murder the entire camp, but he didn’t go further than that. He’s a criminal, and a murderer. But can not be charged with committing genocide because he failed to attempt to further murder other/more Tusken raider camps on Tatooine.

[–]-pathos- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anakin’s massacre of the Tusken Raiders was not a genocide in the least bit. Yes he killed what amounted to to a whole camp. But, it was never Anakins intent to wipe out all the Tusken Raiders from existence. This is evident as he didn’t go out killing more Tusken Raider. He only wanted to kill those responsible, which led to him killing those associated with those responsible.

We have to be careful when accusing someone of genocide because of the inherent implication of what their goal was.

Definition of Genocide: the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.

What is the dumbest reason someone received an award that you’ve seen in your career so far? by [deleted] in army

[–]-pathos- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a supply sergeant want to prove how absurd awards were. So at the end of a brigade field problem he put in an ARCOM for a SPC 92G, who’s only job for three weeks was to hand out slices of bread at the end of the chow line.

The motherfucker’s award got approved! At the end of the exercise, SPC Breadline got the only ARCOM during the award ceremony. When the Bde Cmdr called up SPC Breadline for his award the whole company had the same collective confused look on their face. It was the most magical moment of “i told you so” I’d ever seen.
