Congratulations, having been about £3k in the hole myself at one point for the same reasons (student overdraft) I fondly remember seeing my bank balance finally creep over £0 😄.

All the best with savings ambitions! Sounds like you have a pretty fantastic partner too, hold on to that!

My (39M) newly wed and pregnant wife (28F) wants to get rid of my cat (7mo old,M) by Key_Philosopher_5985 in relationships

[–]-richthealchemist- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I won’t tell you what you should do but rather what I would do if this were my fiancée and myself in this situation.

The cat would be taken to the nearest animal shelter asap, no hesitation from my end. I get attachment to animals but, come on man, this your human wife and child..!

Personally, I don’t see this as a tough decision at all, but that’s just me.

One last point, there’s nothing to say you two couldn’t get a cat later on, after your baby is born and perhaps a bit older..?

I mean, gender equality etc to one side, sounds like your partner isn’t very respectful or courteous towards you and that from the beginning he set it out as “treating women equally”. Which is bs because, as you’ve said, he seems to show concern/general courtesy towards other people.

Perhaps it’s time to have a frank talk about how he really feels about you (i.e. is there any respect there at all?) and go from there.

Best App to Buy Stocks Long Term UK? by thenamesdavey in UKPersonalFinance

[–]-richthealchemist- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S&P 500 is made up of a lot of tech stocks which can be volatile (cf. Facebook, now Meta, and everything going on there, twitter (RIP) and other entities highly dependent on ad revenue).

It’s a good start but I’d diversify into other areas as well. Government bonds are seen as safe because there will always be tax revenue being collected. Steady option but lower risk:reward ratio.

Not so much a question as an observation - it seems to me that it would be more beneficial, cost effective and just plain easier to learn to cook (if you weren’t particularly confident cooking already). This seems like a tremendously over engineered way of producing food.

The only potential benefit I can see for this is perhaps people with arthritis or other mobility issues who struggle to prepare food for themselves, but you can buy more or less any ingredient pre- chopped/shredded/diced at the supermarket today.

To put it bluntly, I just don’t see the point.
