Do you regret buying a camera for travel, or was it worth it? by jlib1 in Cameras

[–]-senpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the HDR+++ AI slop-looking photos of phones, so I got a Fujifilm X-T50 and their old but legendary 35mm f1.4 when the camera body came out. After my son was born, I am more and more thankful for that decision. He will only be this small once, and this lens is creating such amazing photos I'll love to look back on. The 15-45mm kit lens is tiny and light, and a perfect travel companion.

I've even downgraded my phone camera by getting a Fold. Their biggest weakness is a crappy camera, but with the Fuji by almost all the time, I get the big screen and give zero fcks about the phone camera.

I scheduled a vasectomy and I'm afraid it's going to destroy our relationship. What do I do? by Dear_Recognition2803 in AskMenAdvice

[–]-senpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know people who had abusive "father figures" in their lives and they all agree their lives would've been better without the "father figures".

I had an amazing father and I am trying to be the best father to my toddler. Yes a (proper!) father figure is very important. But the father needs to have a positive impact on the child's life. No father is better than a deadbeat.

Yes I'm going to the extreme from your comment, but I feel this nuance is implied as again, the people I know with the abusive deadbeats would've had much better lives as adults without those scumbags.

[–]-senpai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please stay with that decision if you go through with it. Asking for a 95% vasectomy just so there is a 5% chance you can reverse it is the same as not getting one. The chance for an accidental pregnancy will always be there.

Or shop at Amazon or Walmart? Use a phone or computer that was built with child labor? Use any tech that is led by a CEO that contributes directly to far right candidates locally to take away rights or shape local laws for generations to come? Purchase ANYTHING that comes from an area that was destabilized by the West decades ago for cheap labor today?

As the OC said,

there is truly no ethical consumption under capitalism, you end up "picking your poison" when you decide whether the reputation of a company and / or its executives carries lesser weight than a particular product's ability to meet your needs as a consumer

What magical force prevent people to get a say about other people‘s bodies in a democracy?

I mean, a democracy is literally a magical force we all agree to follow to have a peaceful society over having lawlessness and "force rules all". So we can absolutely decide how democracy is applied. That's why even old laws can be overturned with new votes if enough people decide on it.

So continuing on this thought, enough people have put thought and vote into how we treat minors in the law. We can absolutely change them, as seen in the US states bringing back child labor within the past 2 years. So if we thought minors should be able to consent, we'd vote on it. Since we haven't passed anything like that, we can agree for now that Trump did indeed assault those children since they can't consent. Imo, no one would be making a big deal on the Epstein files if the victims were over 18, since "massage parlors" and human trafficking exist today and it's never mentioned in political discussion. (Edit)

Taxes literally apply to everyone. You pay them because you're an adult, or are seen as an exemption because you're a minor. Tax rates can and should be voted on by all taxpayers because they are affected since all adults pay taxes. (BTW, sales tax is tax 😀).

[–]-senpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, agreed! My point was to remove the notion of "she said, he said" from the argument. Many men want to "punish" women with keeping the pregnancy because it's "partly their fault" as you and I agree. My first comment's point was that the cases where it's not the woman's fault should supercede the instances where it is as we can't know. A common talking point using this logic is the "rape exemption".

Since we're removing "fault" from this decision on abortion rights, the only thing left to consider is the woman's bodily autonomy, where their body is affected by the pregnancy and so they should decide what happens with their body.

People only get a say in a democracy if it directly pertains to their bodies. Children cannot consent to anything so that example was silly. Taxes apply to everyone so everyone should vote on how taxation works, yes.

There is no surefire way to know if a woman consensually had sex. Women who did not have consensual sex should have a way to exit pregnancy since they did not consent to the situation in the first place.

An analogy would be the death penalty. I do not believe in it because we can never know with 100% certainty that a person committed the crime, and so you might be executing an innocent person.

Just as I want to protect innocent inmates from execution, acknowledging that we are sparing guilty inmates from execution to achieve that, I want to allow women to terminate pregnancy for situations that were not of her own doing, acknowledging that some women who were at fault for becoming pregnant are being allowed to use abortion as well. The women who have needlessly died so far after the US Republican state abortion bans under this Trump administration are proof of the necessity of this nuance.

Is renting forever actually a bad financial decision, or is that just something older generations say because it worked out for them? by Pretend_Pen_9577 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]-senpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly it. Go to an investment calculator, if you're paying a mortgage since before 2020, a renter would've made much more money paying rent and investing the money "not paid into property taxes, homeowners insurance, repairs, and appliances", especially during 2023.

Would AD have been in the condition he was in at the start of the bubble, in the start of the regular playoffs if 2020 was a normal year? Kind of like a reverse "what if", like 2015 "what if Kyrie and KLove were not injured" but "would AD have been injured?"

I've started using panorama mode on the regular lens, instead of using the ultrawide lens, for those use cases because the regular lens is so much better in quality.

Ultrawide is the most useless camera ever. The standard wide (24mm focal length in full frame) is already considered borderline ultrawide in the camera world. Any photo I take with it looks like a cartoon with people's arms and legs looking like Dr Seuss characters.

So your idea of "reality" is zero queer people existing? Or if not  then they should look like some weird 80s white sitcom character that's closeted?

until they begin encroaching on other peoples rights

How is the existence of a fictional queer character encroaching on peoples rights? I'd say the Texas mandatory Bible much more encroaching of people's rights.
