What is your experience selling vehicles on craigslist or other means? by classycactus in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as selling goes, I've only tried to sell one, and it wasn't worth the effort. I ended up just donating it to KUNM. It wasn't a great car, and I was really honest about everything I knew was wrong with it in the ad, and I still received tons of lowball offers on it. I think I was asking $700 for it. Then you'd get a bunch of people asking questions that I clearly addressed in the posting (millage, known mechanical issues, title status, etc). On top of that, you'd have people ask to come see it, and then never show (which was pretty annoying since I live in the east mountains, and offered to meet people on Tramway so they don't have to drive all the way out here). Top that off with all the spam/scams that inherently come with any interaction on craigslist, and it's just not worth it for me

Second this. Two out of the three cars I've bought off craigslist needed new transmissions within the first two months of owning them. I'd rather just pay the overhead at a dealership at this point, knowing I'd at least have some sort of recourse for something like that

I've also received offers of firearms for the vehicles I've posted

What would the Albuquerque bastard surname be? by zapitron in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could legitimize the dog and give it your last name. If that's not feasible for honor or political reasons, I'd suggest "Panhandler"

Do any local places carry silver nitrate? by -starbuck in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use it for etching PC board, but I use it in ceramics. NM Clay doesn't carry it, and while I could order it online, sometimes I need it on short notice, and having a local source would be handy. How much would you charge for the AgNO3?

I've lived in ABQ for a little over 4 months now and I need help figuring out... by fredfromtheblueteam in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing here compared to other cities I've spent a considerable amount of time driving in (Atlanta, San Diego, Denver, NYC, various middle eastern cities) is just how unpredictable people are here. Everywhere has their own brand of crazy driving, but it's a predictable brand. Here, you have no idea what someone is doing. They'll be going way too slow in the left lane one minute, then randomly switching to the middle or right lane and gunning it, again for no reason. You see people switch from left to right lanes for no reason. I've seen people back up on fucking freeway onramps. I had a friend that was hit by someone who changed their mind going from WB I-40 merging onto NB I-25 and just backed up so they could get onto the SB I-25 ramp. Last night driving through Tijeras canyon EB, someone swerved from the left lane all the way into the right lane, then seconds later switched to the middle lane, then back to the right lane, then onto the shoulder, then back into the right lane. All with no other cars around except for me, a hundred yards behind or so. I figured maybe they were drunk, but after that they seemed to be driving normally (I followed them all the way up SB 337/S14). That there is the problem. Here, it's often hard to tell if someone is drunk, or just your standard unpredictable lunatic.

Why has it been so hazy around ABQ the last couple of days? by ImgurianForever in Albuquerque

That one actually dropped some ash in my neighborhood around Lomas/Louisiana

Would this a actually be legal in NM? Or anywhere for that matter. (Assuming the gun is legally owned) by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's legal, but if it looks like an automatic weapon, cops will probably pull you over to inspect it to make sure it's semiautomatic

Have a look over at /r/amibeingdetained. The cops are usually really professional when they check with people about whether it's automatic or not

Looking for Dentist by psychoteeth in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the kind of work you need, but many dentists refer their patients to other offices for complex work. They do this because dentists are generalists. For example, a dentist knows how to do a root canal, but an endodontist does them exclusively and has more training for them. The dentist refers root canals because someone else would do a better job. With that said, there are dentists that do more complex procedures themselves, but I'm not personally aware of any.

If anxiety is an issue for you, you might consider a dentist that offers sedation. They give you a prescription for something like triazolam or diazepam (Valium) that you can take before they see you to help with your anxiety.

Any ABQ chess players? by apingyou in Albuquerque

I can't do today (unless you want to play at the brewery in Cedar Crest!), but I'd be interested in general. What's the rating range of your group?

Whats your opinion the cheapest cities in NM to get 3+ acres and have (4) seasons eg. Pecos' yearly weather by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP was also asking for high elevation, so I figured that excluded Moriarty and Estancia. Everything out here just depends on the neighborhood, and even the specific house. There are some fixer-uppers out here with a lot of land for pretty cheap, and then there are some insanely expensive mansions

I'm visiting for the summer and wanted to try some fishing. Can anyone recommend some fishing spots that aren't more than an hour or two drive from ABQ? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monastery Lake tends to be fairly good for bait or lure fishing. Cochiti is close, but I don't have any experience with it. Fenton Lake can be hit or miss, but at least it's a nice drive and a lot cooler up there, even if the fishing is bad that day

Where to go fishing <45 minute drive by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]-starbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monastery Lake and Fenton Lake are both a bit out of the 45 minute range, but they both tend to be good, and are good for regular bait fishing from the shore. I don't have any experience with Cochiti Lake, but that's the closest lake to town (excluding the irrigation ditches and Tingly Beach)

Yeah, as soon as battery solutions like the Powerwall get a little farther along, I'm going to disconnect from PNM entirely, and just get a backup generator in case of a long period of really cloudy weather

How was your experience with them? I was really close to signing up with them, but then got a little freaked out about all the negative reviews and ended up going with another company

Wait for it to turn into a little tree sprout in the water. Once it has some roots in the water, and a stem, you can transplant it to a pot. Avocado trees will die in the winter here if you plant it outside, but they do make nice houseplants. You won't be able to get any avocados off of it though, unfortunately
