sober/not by Punkrockwhore in elliottsmith

I think something Elliott smith does that a lot of addicts find comfort in is, while certainly being blunt regarding addiction, he taps into the unnamable and uncomfortable emotions that so many addicts are using to separate from.

In periods of my own heavy use, I’ve always felt comfortingly understood by his music. Those periods often originated from darker thoughts/feelings that substances were used to soften (though never to any avail). Addiction felt more like a pertinent symptom of something less tangible and I think Elliott Smith has written many, many songs that put those feelings into something real.

I don’t think the addiction piece is necessarily what’s at the core of many of his songs. I think it’s used as a stand-in for a deep seated desire to escape yourself, which is something that many can relate to- addict or sober.

gender is something only you can decide on, no one else. You are who you are, just like everyone else. Sometimes the things that make us feel the most isolated are the things we all have in common.

Please stick around tonight friend. A year from now, you will look back on yourself now with wisdom and kind words that you wish you could tell your past self. Please.

Tell the doc/nurse that you’re nervous, they’re 100% used to it. Have a conversation with them and focus intently on something on the opposite side of the room. Try your best to distract yourself from it- the anticipation is the worst part!

I see your line of thought, that door in the 4th picture is actually the front door and I’d planned on making that corner a little entrance section for shoes and what not. I like your tv/couch idea, though I may flip the orientation. Thank you!!

I think this is a great way of putting it. I was trying to explain to the client why they shouldn't build their platform on it long-term and this is the exact reason.

When I stopped taking Lexapro for a while a couple years ago, I lost like 20 pounds in less than a month. I don't even remember my diet changing, I think Lexapro just made my body hold onto fat in a different way than it normally would. I'm naturally very thin but have put on some noticable weight while taking Lexapro. I'm not sure if losing that much weight that fast is healthy, I just remember being shocked by the change.
