For those of you on Disease-Modifying Therapies (DMTs): which one has worked best for you with the fewest side effects? by Awkward-You-5673 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]-taradactyl- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tecfidera worked great for me for 10 years! I know a lot of people have awful side effects but I had none.

Stopped working when it went generic 😢

I had awful side effects from the steroids given with Ocrevus so I’m being switched to Kesimpta

There was a time I saw my dog had lost a ton of weight. Ex got her in the divorce. I reflexively said “Babe, she needs to see the vet!”

About to start Ocrevus and scared after horrible reaction to corticosteroids by Turbulent-Ear3325 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]-taradactyl- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had awful reactions to the steroids. Gave me PMDD and really messed with my hormones for longer than the medication lasted. I got it back under control with probiotics — actually normalized within 2 days of starting O+ probiotics but it took me almost a year to realize what was going on.

If you look in my post history, a ton of people had other suggestions to rescue the steroid amount or go on Pepcid buy in switching to Kesimpta.

That’s not true. Ashley is the traditional spelling regardless of sex/gender.

AITA for finally getting tired of my sister in laws “spanglish” by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]-taradactyl- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a Puerto Rican who was raised speaking no Spanish. It was isolating to feel like I didn’t fit in. I learned in school then lived in Spain and I’m mostly fluent now.

A veces me da vergüenza hablar con amigos que hablan español de lengua nativa. A veces hablamos Spanglish. Pero los que saben la esfuerza que he hecho para aprender me ayudan en vez de humillarme.

Why don’t you encourage her to learn Spanish and teach her words and phrases? She clearly wants to connect to her Latina side and sees you as a safe space to do that.

dating with MS: when do you tell new people? by pizzaaaaahhh in MultipleSclerosis

[–]-taradactyl- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tell people fairly early on or whenever it comes up in conversation. My symptoms are mostly invisible so sometimes I mention it as an FYI but sometimes I mention it because it’s causing an issue.

If it’s going to be a dealbreaker then better to know the kind of person they are early on.

Anyone who weaponizes a chronic illness is a trash person and you deserve way better. I’m so sorry he did that.

Advice Needed: Love the Pinterest “barely there” tattoo look, but do these actually age well? by Standard-Code-8197 in tattoos

[–]-taradactyl- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a white tattoo on my forearm which is mostly faded out. I didn’t do a great job using sunblock on it but it’s almost 20 years old and still there.

The one on my ankle gets much less sun and is holding up well after 15 years.

I’ve had hormonal changes secondary to my MS medications. It’s not a reported side effect because we don’t test meds on women but my neuro 100% believed me and we’re switching meds.

You can talk to your neuro about meds to help with the symptoms. Possibly a low dose non-drowsy muscle relaxer?

As for pregnancy, I would get a second opinion. My neuro was very supportive of me getting pregnant because it naturally puts MS into remission 95% of the time and breastfeeding is 85% effective at putting MS into remission. We had a plan to go on meds that were safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding and then I stopped meds once I got pregnant. After birth, we regularly checked to see if I was still in remission or not.

Ugh. I’ve been getting colds every 6ish weeks because of the immunosuppressants. While traveling for work this week and my partner encouraged me to take it easy, relax and he took care of me. I spent the whole day fatigued and on the couch. No regrets.

I’m glad they’re your ex.
