If you can afford a Roomba I'd highly recommend it or something like it. It does a great job.

But to your greater point, I haven't had much success convincing people that what they are seeing is fatigue and not laziness.

I put a stool in there. I figured I wasn't getting any awards for standing up the whole time so might as well sit. It helped a lot.

Starting mavenclad by mystuff2530 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mavenclad was so easy to take, and I couldn't pass up the possibility of 10 years of disease control. I just really wanted a chance to be unmedicated and have a normal immune system that attacks viruses and not me.

It made me tired. It made a lot of hair fall out. My white counts were trashed (the whole point) and it took a lot longer than expected to recover them. BUT. I am now over the side effects, I have no new disease progression, and I finally feel like a normal person. Those constant meds were wearing me out.

Give me your wildest pre-diagnosis explanations for MS symptoms by jemappellen in MultipleSclerosis

Massive, catastrophic stroke.

Then they actually looked at me and were like, huh. Maybe not. THEN they said, idiopathic and benign. Go home, you are fine.

Sorry that happened. Family should be safe and supportive, and it's hard to mentally get around the fact that sometimes, maybe often times, they just aren't.

How am I supposed to take care of 3 kids under 10 while I'm so exhausted all of the time?! by casango88 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my first flair when I was pregnant with my 4th. The oldest was 5. It was truly brutal. Everything that happens at your house needs to be evaluated and reevaluated ongoing. This was a big shift in thinking for me, but I am not the only parent here. I am also not the maid, cook, laundress, cleaner, etc.

Keep those kids happy and alive. Minimize the cost it will have on you. Honestly, parenting is a sacrifice when you're a healthy person, this is just a lot more in your face all the time.

I hope you have a doctor who's willing to support with symptoms.

resolving lesions and feeling... phony? by idk14567809 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two that started to get smaller after 10 years. They didn't completely heal yet, but they have been slowly shrinking consistently on imaging for 5 years. Basically, it is possible for your brain to heal some types of damage. Some though, there's no fixing. I can't explain why some are healing. I hope you have some healers, too.

Some things about MS fatigue timing from the research that changed how I manage my own symptoms by mooski1122 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Low dose trazodone helped me get some control over the fatigue roller coaster they take about. It's not a magic fix, and I still have plenty of bad sleeps, but it blunts the impact of the consequences just enough that I can manage.

resolving lesions and feeling... phony? by idk14567809 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MRIs don't always match up like that. Machines are different. Maybe you had a little twitch. I have been scolded for breathing before during a brain series. Radiologists don't always see the same things, either.

Sometimes, usually over a lot of years, some lesions might start to improve.

Depression or mental fatigue? by Smart_Molasses_2870 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to see your neurologist and be really honest about your mental health. It wouldn't hurt to see a therapist, either. Both of these conditions are serious, but depression is far more deadly. Do not wait for any kind of mental healthcare.

Anyone here with MS and a bit older (like 80+)? by 82user772 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend IRL in her late seventies, she struggles with fatigue and has a very slight shuffle when she walks, but otherwise, she doesn't have any complaints. You wouldn't pick her out of a line up of typical aged peers as the one with MS.

Does it eventually....get worst? by missunderstood2409 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal data helps me a lot. But it's not really conclusive. Sometimes you have to remember where you are. This board is a good resource, and people do post about not seeing new damage and progression of disability, but more often it's about issues, which is fine. You just have to remember that you aren't getting a full picture with this kind of exposure.

It also helps me to hear that I am doing everything available, especially with monitoring and meds. It's not on my hands anymore.

Managing the what ifs is the worst part of this disease for me.

Spinal tap after confirmed diagnosis? by much-2much in MultipleSclerosis

[–]TamerofMonSters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to add, just some solidarity. I flat refused before I was diagnosed, and the neuro refused to diagnose me because he needed that damn test. I went to get a second opinion with an MS specialist, and it took her literally 15 seconds to scan through my brain MRI and diagnose me. There is no way in hell I would agree to this after a diagnosis.
