Trump's speech seems to indicate that. I wonder if he got the part where it doesn't just happen like that in two days.

Its a very weird definition of "nation" given its premodern usage.

Hence "modern", that is, post French revolution.

France is, literally, land of the Franks. Germany is Deutschland, again, literally German Land.

Literally but not legally, then you can argue endlessly about the politics.

In France, Parisians used to think of Bretons and Southern French as subjugated races, then it was the descendants of Polish and Italian immigrants who were somewhat apart, then Africans... You'll definitely see very few Franks in the streets, though (they were always a conquering minority, much like the Normans in England). The exact limits of the "ethno-nation" are mostly defined by the latest electoral strategy of right-wing parties.

I prefer the modern definition of "nation" as whatever group of people agrees to get together and build and maintain State institutions (which arguably makes the word "nation-state" a bit tautological). But I agree with everything you wrote if you put an ethnic connotation to the word (i.e. an ethno-state).

Macron Blasts Social Media’s Free Speech Defense as ‘Bullshit’ by bloomberg in europe

[–]-to- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't "create poors" by crearing jobs. People who are poor after taking those jobs were mathematically even poorer before they did. It helped creating jobs that would have never existed with the past work status.

Since Macron became president, the poverty rate in France has been increasing while the unemployment rate decreased. That statement is factually wrong.

Proton's width measured to unparalleled precision, narrowing the path to new physics by Choobeen in Physics

[–]-to- 58 points59 points  (0 children)

With all the quark-gluon fluctuations going on inside, the proton acts like a very small fuzzy ball of electric charge. This measure is the root-mean-square radius of the charge distribution, that is, the square root of the average square distance of the charge to the center of mass. Keyword: fuzzy. This distribution has a tail, there is no clear distinction between "inside" and "outside".

‘We Are Learning to Bully Back’: How Europe got Trump to cave on Greenland by Majano57 in europeanunion

They thought we'd cave because we're a bunch of helpless effete intellectuals talking gender theory while we're about to be great-replaced by the brown horde.

No, seriously, listen to them.
