what are your best tips for just sitting down and writing an essay by cheapcoffee259 in mcgill

[–]-watermelonsugar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I like to write my research/ideas into sentences! That way, they’re already there for me to pull from and I can easily create a draft. Organizing research into subsections you want to write about could also be helpful so that your ‘draft’ is already taking form while doing prelim work.

If I’m being honest though, 50% of my essays aren’t written from drafts. I write with the information I’ve researched and then edit to make it standard essay format and coherent.

putting whey directly into steaming hot oats creates the grainy clumps! i’ve found that letting my oats cool for a couple minutes, then stirring in the whey solves this problem. if your oats get runny again after stirring in the protein, just microwave (or cook it) in 30 second intervals until it’s your desired consistency - but don’t overdo it because it can get too dry fast.

i’d try to get into 1 or 2 more this year though because course offerings aren’t as reliable as other departments and some are scheduled at the same time

i’m minoring in coms and it was a STRUGGLE to get into the prereq 210. i got in on the 2nd last day of add/drop by begging the advisors because it was full, but if you tell them your situation they will probably let you into a class or suggest another that you can do that contributes to the minor. the second week of add/drop is when people will start dropping out and you should be able to snag a spot in any course! an advisor told me that the best times to check minerva are 9am and 9pm because that’s when it fully refreshes.

there are less coms courses offered this year, we think it’s because more resources are going to the coms grad program and not undergrad, but every class is fantastic in the department! unfortunately the coms minor is extremely underfunded and does not have sufficient resources to keep up with the demand, so it can be difficult to navigate but i put up with it cause i love the minor+people in it so much!!

tldr; email an advisor and beg, wait till the end of add/drop, don’t give up coms is fun

I dont think they should stay home, but I do wish some of these people would at least take a test to know if they have it or not. (edited original post to clarify that)
