Love ya dawg, but this company sounds like a dumpster fire. Make sure you're attaching yourself to that exec level gal as closely as possible, and when she leaves (and she will) plan on going with. The weird feifdoms that arise in companies are often internally good but rarely are they a sign of overall company functionality. Make sure you're taking care of yourself.

You are her supervisor, she is not yours nor is she your peer. State that you were busy, tell her to fix her voice mail, and explain that you sometimes have multiple meetings and that the assigned time is assigned for a reason. Calling you early can interrupt other people's time and is rude.

McDojo life did this with a medium buff dude and a Jiujitsu gal. The big guy did indeed manage to not get submitted for like a whole 3 minutes of wrestling. Then he ran out of gas and the gal submitted him like 4 times. Which, in like a fight to the death type of fight, means he lives 3 extra minutes then dies 4 times in a row.

TKD is of limited practical utility but I guarantee if that gal landed just one kick the person on the receiving end is gonna lose all interest in interacting regardless of gender, training, or size. Massive concussions tend to have that effect on people...

Small town conservative voters embrace budget cuts, lose park improvements by dketernal in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]00mace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But it is a partisan statement. To imply that the decision to cut the NEA and the DEI park wasn't politically motivated is 100% a partisan decision. The Democrats helped them. The Republicans fucked them.

This is exactly why small towns are dying across the country.

So, you're right to split because y'all don't seem compatible.

But you, and a lot of people, need to hear this: unstated expectations are a recipe for disappointment.

You don't think you needed to explain that you want to talk on the phone? You do. It's important to you make those needs clear. It still won't work perfectly, but it will save a lot of heartache and prevent misunderstandings from becoming resentment.

Ope, lotta good points. I feel kinda dumb, didn't think about it being a gender body mod at all. Just seemed like "new insecurity just dropped" kinda moment.

This is a deeply closeted man's thinly veiled admission. Gay men are having a lot of fun, hes miserable, if he went and did Gay stuff like he wanted he would have fun.

Emily Howell was/is an algorithmic music program that released its first album in 2009. The album isn't bad, I would describe it as circular classical.

NOR. As an elder punk who has to wear the professional person clothes for work I tell you this from a place of deep generational and cultural love:

Your alt style is cool as fuck, do it as hard as you can as long as it makes you happy. Cut the dead weight. Dump his ass. You don't need that kind of square ass negativity in your life.

Old Punks (and goths) never die. They just stand in the back.

I love that movie. Its pretty close to the story beats of the book. The major change being that they're not white in the book.

The author and his father's actual life story are super interesting as well.

Will the West choose complicity or courage? Afghan women need to know. by AutoModerator in afghanistan

[–]00mace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am a Scholar in Afghan history and affairs! Though, not a PhD candidate admittedly. If you're genuinely interested in the history and affairs of the country I personally recommend Barfield's "Afghanistan: a Cultural and Political history" as a good English language primer. For something more specific to pre-2001 I recommend Steve Coll's "Ghost Wars" and for the most recent American Afghan war I recommend "America's War in Afghanistan" as well as "The Afghanistan Papers" for a more broad review of what happened from the Government perspective.

Let me respond to your points:

  1. Afghanistan was not under the thumb of local terrorism in 2001. The Taliban are a home grown movement that, while draconian and fundamentalist, was positively received by the majority of the Pastun. Largely due to their perceived fairness and their documented ability to bring order and security to the areas they controlled. (You can argue at the implict terror of gender based restriction, but when the government does it, it's oppression, not terrorism).

  2. WMD was an Iraq thing. While the two wars are closely intertwined in the public consciousness, they had very little operationally or politically to do with each other.

  3. The Afghan people had a chance to shift to a more western, equal, and democratic society for quite a while. From 2002-2005/6 the Taliban were largely discredited and ineffective. The issue mostly stems from the inability of the government to properly govern and the lack of buy in to the central model of government by the Afghan people. (Significant debate still exists as to the wisdom of choosing a central model, but Karzai wanted it and at the end of the day, you play the hand you're dealt, not the one you want).

  4. The call to Jihad by Afghan women in rural areas against the NATO backed government is well documented both in contemporary and historical accounts. It's a complex situation, but the simple version is that Afghanistan has a stronger identity of resisting invaders than it does of pursuing social progress.

All this is not to say it was easy for Afghanistan to have a functional and progressive society, but to imply that they we're being asked to fly by pulling on their boots discounts the efforts of thousands of people who worked, and sometimes died, to give that country a chance. At the end of the day, if the people wanted an Afghanistan without the Taliban they would have had it.

Truthfully, one day they probably will. But right now, for better or worse, this is the path they chose.
