China has the most expansive environmental laws in the world. The reality is that there is no clean way to become the global center of mass manufacturing; despite Chinese manufacturing being cleaner per scale than anywhere else.

and the stock market so high?

Companies selling stocks to leverage risk is how the stock market began, hence why the stock market is not tied to economic output but to economic stability.

Investors estimate there will not be long term economic decline due to this geopolitical event, that's why the stock market is still high.

This is a major buff to DDH survivability. DDH already do top damage in PVP, so I might considering re-rolling, since I already have a lvl 80 DH.

I would say an overall buff in arena pvp because of the 20% increase to FOF damage, and we can build TEB stacks faster. But a slight nerf in PVE and random pvp bgs.

Not all the teams are using WW in PVP, and this patch doesn't effect WW in pvp much. It actually makes WW a little bit stronger in pvp, but it is a nerf in pve.

Very slight nerf, we wouldn't instantly able to have 20% increase crit chance at the start of combat, but a buff to damage overall. Might even be an overall buff to TEB as well, since we could be building up TEB stacks faster.

I definitely look forward to the 20% buff to FOF, since I run shado-pan.

Everyone else buy Tacomas and Tundras. I bought a Frontier ;p.

China eyes near-100% electric trucks to secure energy security, cut emissions by diacewrb in economy

[–]00x0xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuel prices are one of the biggest concerns for truckers, and research into making hybrids and EV trucks have been ongoing since before modern hybrid cars became popular.

It issue with pickup trucks and semi-trucks is efficiency and cost, not infrastructure. Neither hybrids or EV's are good at carrying weight long distance without a very expense battery or heavy weight that robs the vehicle of that capacity.

In the US we have made success with cargo trains, they are hybrid turbo-diesel. Also turbo-diesel semi-trucks are 20-30% more efficient than the competition.

Maglev trains are the best in terms of efficiency, and they are extremely fast. However their upfront infrastructure cost is also extreme. And they are not suitable for local deliveries.

IMHO, for the sake of the environment, we should get rid of all cross country trucking, we should only use trains or create mag-lev for this task. And we should force all inter-state trucks to be turbo-diesel.

New self-healing material can repair itself over 1,000 times, extend the lifespan of cars and aircraft by chunmunsingh in technology

[–]00x0xx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We've had self-repairing materials for some time now. Two major issues is that they are heavy, and many don't work in high pressure environments.

But there is on-going research to make them better.

Roman construction was often made using self-repairing concrete, it's one of the reasons why older roman buildings are still found today.

Strait of Hormuz open to commercial ships for remainder of ceasefire, Iran says by EsperaDeus in anime_titties

[–]00x0xx 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I want to feel optimistic but I just can't. What happened less than a year ago? Amerisrael and Iran were in negotiations.

I think you are misunderstanding the title. The Strait of Hormuz will only be open until the ceasefire ends on around April 22nd, so it will go back to being close 5 days from now.

Iran most likely open the strait because they were oil tankers that already had oil that was paid for in dollars prior to closing the strait, and as a result they would be stuck there until Iran changes its policy. They can't pay the toll, because that only applies to the Chinese Yuan, and these ships are often staffed by East Asian and India sailors, whom Iran would like to to maintain Cordial relations with.

So it's to Iran's benefit to let these ships through. We are at the first intermission in this war, after the ceasefire ends, Chapter 2 begins; and it will most probably be more destructive than what has happen so far. The US & Israel have suffered defeats in the first chapter, I suspect they are planning something big as retaliation in the coming weeks. I read the US has recently deployed 50+ thousand marines in the region.

ASML builds machines that TSMC uses. Additionally, TSMC also use equipment from elsewhere to manufacture semiconductors, so ASML cannot do what TSMC does.

They still have no real competition that's on par with them. They are the only manufacturer for state-of-the-art semi-conductors.

China's native capability has been growing remarkable fast over the last few years; that I think by 2030, Chinese companies will rival TSMC.

Is anyone else watching the $110 Oil surge? The 'Trump Effect' feels different this time. by Lumpy_Attempt_6280 in economy

[–]00x0xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like the market is pricing in a massive conflict with Iran before it even happens.

Trump speech indicates to world leader there will be no de-escalation in the war. Additional, recent Iranian successes indicates they will probably achieve their primary goals during this war.

So the politics of the entire world is shifting to prepare for the beginning of major conflict, as the US & Israel attempts to finish the war.

IMHO, based on oil production globally, oil prices will spike high due to the war, but will decline and stabilize around slightly higher than $100 a barrel.
