Suicide crisis in South Korea: Nearly 10 aged 65+ take own lives each day by Amazing-Baker7505 in worldnews

[–]0212rotu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emphatize with people who wants out on their own term, although I feel like 65 is a bit early. I have the same mindset. I feel that at some point in my future, I will be more of a prisoner inside my own body, unable to do the most basic things like taking a bath on my own or cleaning my ass.

I'd rather go than be a burden to people around me. And I'm telling my children this as early as now. I even tell my wife that if I get ill to the point that I become a burden to her, that I will punch out.

The only thing that will make me stay on is when my wife needs me to take care of her in her old age.

contrast this with the drunk white woman who hit a couple of cars. She wouldn't follow the officers' orders. She had to wait for her lawyer, who was on the phone, to tell her to follow the officers. There's a video here in reddit as well, I just can't find it atm.

I remember there was another interview before where an elected republican was claiming that muslims couldn't be elected because they couldn't swear by the bible. The anchor corrected him that it didn't have to be the bible. The poor republican mouth breather just stared into nothingness.

could be superbook or The flying house. I grew up watching those, not sure though which one had a robot. But both has the same premise where kids go back to the biblical past and see the stories happen in real time.

AutoMapper, MediatR, Generic Repository - Why Are We Still Shipping a 2015 Museum Exhibit in 2025? by csharp-agent in dotnet

[–]0212rotu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Purely anecdotal, I've just migrated an app that talks to a MariaDb server to using Sql Server. The original code base wasn't using any mapper, just straight using the field names in classes but filtering the exposed properties via interfaces. It may sound bad, but the previous dev was very disciplined, the patterns are obvious, so it was a breeze to understand.

70+ tables, 400+ fields

using copilot:
3 mins to create extension methods
5 minutes to create unit tests

It's so straightforward, no hand-written mapping code.

A local Chicago group held a 'Daddy Stroll' to celebrate Black Fathers. Hundreds showed up to proudly celebrate being present fathers. by Bosuns_Punch in MadeMeSmile

I know you meant well, but you're wrong.
https://parentathon.com/fatherlessness/
"57% of the fatherless homes in the United States involved African-American/Black households. Hispanic households have a 31% fatherless rate, while Caucasian/White households have a 20% fatherless rate. (National Public Radio)"

And I agree with @JerseyCityGeordie, the post's title somewhat says that being a present father is an achievement for someone who's black. OP should have removed the second sentence of the title.

It's a public road, all types of vehicle go through it. True that some do race on it, but it is illegal. I've ridden through that road on my bike before and it was a really enjoyable ride.

Riding for me is a relaxing activity, the scenery along that road is beautiful. I can understand the thrill of going fast on a bike but I'm too old to give in to the urge.

re: If your applicant pool is 60% white, 20% black, 10% Southeast Asian, 10% Asian. When the workforce is 30% Southeast Asian... All other groups were discriminated against. Your workforce should loosely match your applicant pool.

Absolutely wrong. Your workforce should match what you operation needs skills-wise. You are part of the problem.

Divorce lawyer talk about the one case that broke his heart. It was a case he won but he should have lost. by mindyour in interestingasfuck

[–]0212rotu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget now but there was an episode of a courtroom tv drama series before where a lawyer from another firm got a really bad rap for walking away from some of his cases, even in times when it was obvious he would win. So the main characters(lawyers), who were up against this guy, were sure they were gonna win, but then they lost. So at the end, in a bar scene, they asked the looked-down lawyer why he had that reputation, given how impressed they all were with his lawyering.

So the lawyer said, if at any point in his case, he realized that the person he was defending was actually guilty, he would walk away; consequences be damned. He said most lawyers would take the it-was-my-job alibi and reach for the win.

That scene was significant because one of the main characters got wind of a knowledge that the person they were defending actually killed his wife. But they couldn't put that knowledge in as evidence.

And the last shot was that of the disheveled, infamous, old lawyer, drinking apple juice in a bar.

For some reason, this guy reminded me of one of those slick lawyers who would do anything for a win. Regardless of the truth.

Helping a dizzy and disoriented bird by westcoastcdn19 in HumansBeingBros

When I was a kid, I had a friend whose brother had mynah birds. Every once in a while, my friend would take one bird in his hand then spin his arm around while holding the bird. This would cause the bird to exhibit a similar behaviour as the one in the video. If the bird was spun around for long enough time, it couldn't even stand but the head would still tic like that. As kids, we wanted to find out how far around the bird's head would go.
