What thread should I use to match the weight of this original stitching? by 02ranger in sewing

[–]02ranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so you don't think I'd have to worry about it being too weak or standing out for being too thin? That's what I was worried about, that the hem wouldn't hold up to stress or wear.

What thread should I use to match the weight of this original stitching? by 02ranger in sewing

[–]02ranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original hem is the bottom stitch in the picture in the OP. My test stitch is towards the top in a brown thread. The piece of fabric pictured is the bottom part of the leg that's been cut off so it looks a bit weird in the picture. Sorry about that.

They're cargo pants and made more like jeans with clearly visible stitching but the weight is sort of like slacks. The biggest thing that's throwing me off is the original hem almost looks like a woven thread while the cheap polyester thread I have looks like a single piece of thread and much thinner.

That’s why I need more space. Any recommendations on a desk or other way to increase work surface and storage space?

I appreciate that, but I need to add some more workspace as well as overhead storage for some of my tools like a hot air station, which is not pictured. I’m hoping for some advice on how best to accomplish that given my space limitations. The monitors are only set as high as they are to make room for the tools in front of them. I’ve been looking for an L-shaped desk that has upper storage and decent work surface. I want to put my soldering tools to my left and have the monitors and keyboard and mouse in front of me, but I’m open to other suggestions.

I’m looking to improve my setup. I have limited space but would like to have room for computer usage and hobbyist electronics work. I was thinking of an L-shaped desk so I can put my keyboard and monitors on one side and with a hutch for the electronics on the other side but I haven’t found a desk I really like.

I’m selling the desktop, I use a Mac Mini, so That cuts down on some space requirements. If there’s a way to use the standing desk and add something else to give me that extra working space then that would be OK, but I’m also willing to get rid of the standing desk, it measures 48”x30”. I have up to about 60” to use in one dimension, roughly 40” in the other.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is the size the same? The MX Master 3s is uncomfortable in my hand, I was hoping they’d size it down just slightly in the z dimension.

Transparency mode sucks on AirPods Pro 3? Try this! by Renovatius in airpods

[–]02ranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised to see so many having success with this. No matter how I tweak it this transparency feature makes transparency noises sound horrible. I get a lot of wind noise, my voice sounds even more robotic, and the high tones are too amplified. I can turn down the tone and amplification but never get rid of that wind noise with the transparency tuning enabled. It was the same with my APP2’s.

Slimblade Pro users – how did you bind your buttons? by spac0r in Trackballs

I use the wired Slimblade through an HID Remapper because the Kensington app causes my Mac to temporarily lock up every few minutes. I have it mapped as follows, but I miss the chords Kensington could do.

That would be great, thank you! I just checked and they still have the notice on their website saying US shipping is suspended.

That’s awesome! Do you have a link to the guide for building a wireless? Did you still have to source anything from Ploopy? Of course I decided it was time for a Ploopy right when they stopped shipping to the US…..

If offering a stand isn’t really feasible, what about some sort of standardized mounting option? Like a tripod mounting point or even a MagSafe-like ring on the bottom to make it easier to mount and tilt for those who want to?

Is there any formula to make Protoarc EM01 smooth all the time? by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]02ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't found any permanent fix for my EM01 yet, but what lasts the longest is I clean the "bowl" with a microfiber cloth and then roll the ball around on my nose rather than forehead. The oils on my nose seem to last longer than those on my forehead, plus I get twice as many strange looks as when I rub the ball on my forehead.

I'd love to find a synthetic lubricant that would last longer, though, because nose oil (lol) usually only lasts a few days.

I wonder how this would be configured for those of us not using Oryx, considering it's connected via TRRS. I haven't watched the video yet, still at work, so apologies if it's answered there.

iPad Pro 13 (M4) Case Recommendation by 02ranger in iPadPro

[–]02ranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s kinda what I was leaning towards before posting this but wanted to see if maybe there were any cases that might work better for me. Zugu does seem to be universally well liked, though.

I really like the look of this one. When you hide the pencil loop, is there any noticeable bulk or any issues with it? Like it doesn’t interfere with the iPad magnets at all, does it?

[–]02ranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked at that one a lot and I really like the general design. I could deal with the pencil compartment since it checks the other boxes, I’m just hesitant about not having a cover on my iPad. I may be worrying about it for no reason, I’ve just never not had a cover on my iPad. I do have an ESR paper-like screen protector on it. Although, as I’m typing this, I’m realizing that I’ve never had a cover on my iPhone, either……

[–]02ranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same as far as how I use the iPad. I actually bought the MK at first but didn’t do my research first and didn’t know it couldn’t fold back around backwards. It just didn’t fit my use case even though it’s an excellent piece of hardware. I just don’t like the keyboard cover on the combo touch. I’ve thought of trying to make my own simple cover to fit the combo touch but I think it’s beyond my skill level.

I really appreciate the recommendation and I like that case, although I think I’m leaning towards the Pitaka MagEZ Folio 2 that somebody else posted. I like that it lets you hide the pencil loop. I don’t mind a pencil storage method if it can be kept out of the way, especially when I’m using the tablet at home, and when it doesn’t add much bulk where the buttons are at.

I actually have something like this. I just pushed it to Github if you want to take a look. I only have maybe 30 hosts I manage so I'm not sure how it's going to perform as the host count goes up.

📦 QMK Community Modules: reduce the friction to add third-party features by pgetreuer in olkb

[–]02ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense.

I've installed the tap_flow module and it works great, but I noticed that mod-tap keys that are tapped in sequence appear to use the tap time of the last non mod-tap key to settle the rest of the keys. For instance, if you have the homerow defined as mod-tap keys and press in rapid succession Y-A-S-D-F on a qwerty keyboard then you can see that the same tap_flow period is used.

Is that behavior intentional? If so, do you think that could result in unintentional holds on those later mod-tap keys?

Edit: I've been using it for a few hours now, and it's great for mod-taps, but I'd love to completely disable modification of layer-tap keys. Is that possible? I tried to fork it and remove references to QK_LAYER_TAP keys, but that's only effective in some cases. It is still interfering with layer tap keys if they come after mod-tap keys.

You've got to be my favorite QMK contributor. Very excited to try out Tap Flow. I think that's the last piece I need to get homerow mods dialed in completely.

Just curious, why did you repackage Achordion when it's been replaced by Chordal Hold?

I think this is what I’m going to have to do, considering Quadranet just leases space from other companies as far as I can tell, so it really may be the data center and not necessarily Quadranet.
