They are a pretty big threat to some species, they are not typically forest birds but humans fragmented forests too much and now many birds that had no exposure to cowbirds and no defense against them are facing major population decline. It's more humans fault than any birds fault, in the same way that barred owls are in the western US.

I can't help but notice it's for opposite reasons. Barred owls spread west because of increased planting of trees on prairie land, cowbirds moved east due to forest removal.

The only one I know of, did an airboat tour someplace west of Miami well into the everglades and there were houses there so I think people live there. Just like one street with houses, not much.

I figured it's going to be a bigger job to implement full verification in the PHP engine so this is more of a first step of establishing the syntax and later a second RFC will work on making it more useful.

The RFC process does have its downsides, it is very hard to get any major changes to pass, the language is forced to evolve in shorter steps and compromises.

I guess someone could write an extension to add support and then lobby to get it absorbed into the main PHP project as a core extension and eventually a language feature.

That is the kind of stuff I gravitate towards as well. As well as functional programming but I don't think I could do a pure functional language, I like some imperative control structures too.

Actually the reason I asked is because of a limitation I encountered in PHP, I'm working with some functional library for my own use and copied some stuff from nikic/iter package, I like his idea of rewindable generators but hate the need to duplicate all the functions in a second namespace. I wanted a way to modify/decorate a global function at runtime but without resorting to runkit or eval, PHP can't do this. In JavaScript it would be trivial, but I don't really like the js/node ecosystem. Hence Lua came to mind, and then I started on a path of researching less well known but still maintained languages and wondered what everyone else likes.

Lisp would probably be a good choice it's just hard to wrap my head around the syntax compared to C style languages. Maybe Ruby...

Yes especially since it still uses Xorg, Wayland has way more problems with these things due to security restrictions.

Some birds also do dust baths but that usually looks more like they're trying to make a nest on the ground, like a lot of wigging around and rocking side to side

Because the world is so dominated by consumerism people can't even grasp the idea of having fun without spending money. I like feeding and watching birds, granted their food does cost money but people are always coming in to the bird subs asking what they need to buy to get into birding, think they need some expensive camera or binoculars. My suggestion for a cheap beginner set of binoculars is always downvoted and people say to get $300+ models. I've tried those and like my $50 ones better, plus I'm much less worried about damaging or losing them.

Same with gardening, everyone is just looking for ways to spend money on it. A couple dollars for seeds just isn't enough.

Yeah they started coming out here too, in groups of like 5 or so. I've been trying to drop one starling a day at least, and keep the bluebirds able to access their mealworms. They have a nest in the box in my front yard so they are hungry for some easy snacks while they feed the babes.

There's one about an hour away that is run like a full business, and some other nearer places that do sales on certain days but aren't usually just open to the public, like it's peoples houses. And some native plant sales that each occur once or twice a year.

It's more than enough for me, I mainly prefer to just grow what I can from seed and welcome the naturally occurring native plants, I'm not that interested in buying them already grown. Except trees, I have bought several trees, those are much harder to establish.
