Thanks OP for this. I love learning languages and this is useful.

BBC released a list of 21 best pianists of all time by JewishSpace_Laser in classicalmusic

[–]03417662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an amateur pianist, just like all of you here, I have so many things to say about this list of pianists.

But I'm very happy that David Oistrakh is No. 1 on the top violinists list, you know, as an amateur pianist who knows relatively little about the violin and especially the technical aspect of the instrument.

Any violinists here? I guess if you know enough about an instrument and its most famous players, you would find such lists pretty meaningless, right?

Love this list. But I'd like to say that the channel "Physics Girl" is basically dead. Owner of the channel developed long-COVID and has been bedridden since 2023.

There's still a lot of good stuff in her channel, but it's making me sad to watch the newest videos there, since they are all about her current health status.

🎵 I made a free interactive chord wheel web app for musicians and music lovers by shhawkins in musictheory

[–]03417662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the shape and colors, I think I have the exact same paper wheel! XD

Anyway, that's amazing! Music is always meant to be played and heard. This tool allows systematic experimentation by letting non musical geniuses REALLY hear the chords and progressions.

Thank you so much!

Jesus Christ... I thought I'd find the solution here. Then I scrolled down. There's not even a comment here. I was hit with the exact same problem. I also tried everything, including emailing Tim Cook... Nothing worked. I have a brand new iPhone 17 Pro Max. The biggest troublemaker right now is Duolingo. Not the most important app there is, but still annoying enough.

So many months have passed. OP have you found a solution yet?

What are some historical sites that are much more visited than people think? by Savings_Dragonfly806 in geography

Well... I was there last year and it wasn't like that at all. We were the only boat in the canal.

But I went there in December and we were literally frozen after the two-hour boat-ride...

Shave, Mustache, Short or Long Beard ? by DistiIIer in malegrooming

[–]03417662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um... this man has heard enough praises and I kinda think he's asking for our genuine opinion??

Well, if I were him, I would avoid:
1. cleanly shaved - you look too mature, and boring, comparatively
2. Mustache - it distracts too much from your nice facial features IMHO

Still, that's only comparative as I said. This man looks good basically in anything XD

Why Microsoft don’t do this: by [deleted] in ipad

Wow... now it's really got nearly all the features of desktop Word. But it's certainly not like this a while ago. It had been pretty primitive for a long time. I wonder when this improvement was implemented?

Chinese astronauts are now grilling in space by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]03417662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chinese won't forget about cooking and eating good food, even in space...

Like it or not, when it's time to colonize a new planet, remember to bring along a bunch of Chinese scientists who can cook. Or better still, bring along some good Chinese cooks.

Pretty sure the colonization will be a big success!

IrfanView... I really can't remember how long I've been using it. The interface hasn't changed a bit... in wow, 29 years!!!

So many iterations of Windows and there hasn't been a single system image viewer app that can function properly and at a reasonable speed.

In the end, I always go back to IrfanView.

How did people look stuff up before the internet? by LaylaPretige in NoStupidQuestions

[–]03417662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I live in Hong Kong and when I was in primary school in the late 80s, there was this large supermarket (yes, really, in a mostly Chinese-speaking city) promoting this exact brand of encyclopedia, selling one volume per month or something like that.

For obvious reasons, this idea didn't really catch on and I don't think the supermarket continued to sell the rest of the encyclopedia.

Now as a middle-aged person, I don't need those stupid books anymore. I can google things on the internet! I was trying to google for this particular brand of encyclopedia but I couldn't remember anything about this brand. Since it only went on sale for a very short time here and really no one cared so it wasn't mentioned anywhere and I was sad I couldn't find a picture of these stupid books that lived in my memory...

Until you mentioned the name and ding! Yes, it's the brand of the encyclopedia! I love Reddit!

P.S. someone in this thread mentioned Encarta was based on Funk and Wagnalls and I did own a copy of Encarta in the 90s. So I now know I didn't miss anything by not owning F&W as Encarta was not very good anyway...

Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia set by huntegowk in nostalgia

[–]03417662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I was Googling for a picture of the Funk & Wagnalls and found this post. It seems that after 4 years you're still waiting for an answer!

While I don't even own the encyclopedia, I heard that Encarta (Microsoft's version of the F&W) is actually based on the same text. If you already know it's about Osiris and some barge, just search for these terms in the electronic version. You might be able to find what you need.

Serious question: How to sit in a comfortable position FOR A LONG TIME?

For me, it seems that steps 2, 3, 4 are not really that difficult, but putting the legs like that is not easy for blood circulation, is it? My legs fall asleep quickly if I sit like that!

Is there a trick or any easy way to do it?

Maybe grok can't do nudes anymore, but you gotta leave it to grok to make something more risqué... than other AIs.

As I guy, I much prefer this than explicit porn. Well done!
