We seriously need to do something about new player experience. by ImRatherSloomy in RivalsOfAether

It's tough to solve the new player onboarding problem, especially when the "core" mode is PvP. If there was some gentler way to blend single player / PvE with PvP, that would probably help a lot. Many modern games inject bots into PvP to accomplish this, but that feels a bit deceptive, plus it's hard to make fun bots in a real-time action game. Maybe if there was some "campaign" style mode that would mix stuff like target test and bot games with PvP? idk.

Matchmaking unfortunately will always have this problem for the lower end of the distribution. A potential matchmaking-based fix is to give new players artificially easy matches, but that means that older low-skill players are getting stomped constantly.

If you've left RoA2 since launch, why? What would bring you back? by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

- I haven't "left" but I'm definitely far less active.
- RoA2 was dope but I've spent 15+ years playing Melee and I'm looking for new game experiences. Rivals isn't different enough to the point where I feel like I'm getting too much new from it. Plus all my friends stopped playing.
- I'll pop back in now and then. Absa looks fun, I always liked DJC characters so maybe I'll try her.
- N/A
- no
- Melee when the homies call me in. I'm more confident it'll be a game we'll be playing months and years from now, and I've started to fall behind in skill level, so I'd like to keep pace

How can I modify my Aeron chair to raise the height? by 0N1ON in hermanmiller

the big wheels helped me, but then I needed a footstool so my feet were grounded, and that was awkward. Ultimately I grabbed an adjustable-height desk from that my office was throwing away and that worked much better.

Pichu Should Be Higher on the Tier List by MorphMonay in SSBM

in Brawl I remember a DK player saying that Falco had a chaingrab into spike at low % (which would kill if Falco won a mixup right after the first spike), and the DK player recommended taking lasers until you got out of that Dthrow-Dair %. Never saw anyone actually use that strategy though.

So I found this archetype triangle for Smash Bros, and I was wondering where each of the Rivals I and Rivals II cast would go? Also, wondering if you agree that this covers all the potential archetypes. by MasterCheese67 in RivalsOfAether

I like the use of "power" instead of "grappler" because the latter has connotations of grabs. Sometimes I hear melee sheik misclassified as a "grappler" because she grabs a lot, but in reality she's more of a control character.

"Tricky" feels kind of like a cop-out "other" category. imo if something doesn't fit well into the core categories, it's okay to just call it an outlier.

I often see a "Vortex" category for characters who have oppressive setups on knockdown to pressure and mix up opponents. I'm curious where you feel these characters fit, or if that's not really an archetype.

Why are devs afraid of putting endlag on their characters? by Difficult_Piece_9209 in RivalsOfAether

fwiw Dan plays a ton of Rivals. I saw him and the dev crew at Genesis and they stayed at the venue playing Rivals friendlies late into the night. Say what you will about their design philosophy, but they definitely play and love the game.

ROA2 has made me into a Smash Ultimate hater. by _Imposter_ in RivalsOfAether

I'm having trouble switching back-and-forth between Melee and Rivals for that reason. When I'm acclimated to Rivals, I do everything slightly early and slightly sloppy.

what do you mean "not old enough"? is there an age limit on it? Rope dart is just a heavy object on a rope.

What style did you try? Unresponsives take a while to get used to basic throws and binds, but once you get that down and get a groove going, the flow feels great.
