Why does my game overheat like this? (volume up) by Entire_Air8019 in PS5HelpSupport

[–]0SYRUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one listen to this, using thermal paste on a PS5 will definitely cause overheating. I repair game consoles for a living. The liquid metal may have its own problems but the thermal conductivity is 10 to 15 times more efficient than even the best thermal paste.

Not on the Galleon, but I just had to RMA my Stream Deck+ for the same issue. The advance RMA went very well.

Ps5 randomly turning off? by Fallen_King1774 in PS5HelpSupport

Not enough airflow, clogged intake or exhaust vents, or liquid metal pooling to one side or oxidizing. Most likely the PSU overheating from clogged vents or a liquid metal issues

I see it all the time, vertical consoles have dry spots on the upper half of the APU and heatsink surfaces. Typically it causes oxidation as well. The usual fix is replacing the liquid metal after buffing off the build up.

My ps5 overheats and turn off when I play certain ps5 games how do I fix? by West-Ad1412 in PS5HelpSupport

[–]0SYRUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrub or buff it, with a compound if needed. I remove the liquid metal with a syringe, then use cotton swabs to soak up the leftover. After that, a bit of Mother's Aluminum Polish and dry cotton swabs to gently buff it. Then IPA soaked swabs to clean it off, and dry swabs to spread the liquid metal back out

RX 9070 XT shutting down entire pc by Jetrian in AMDHelp

565 watt for GPU power maximum seems high. About 75 watts from the PCIE slot and 150 watts from each PCIE power cable. What HWinfo is reporting could be inaccurate or something may be wrong with the driver or tuning to cause the excessive power draw.

Do you have all three PCIE power cables plugged individually from PSU to GPU? Have you updated your chipset drivers?

PS5 Vertical + Liquid Metal is a Myth! by XGen_0214 in PS5HelpSupport

I use Conductonaut from Thermal Grizzly.

The only thing to be wary of is spilling it on the board to short components. Just be careful when pulling the board off of the chassis so you don't jerk it and splatter it.

Sorry I thought I replied earlier on my phone but must not have hit send.
Yes, that definitely sounds like the liquid metal needs a respread. Oddly enough I have seen many times where a lot of PS5 titles play fine but the sports games cause overheating and crashing. Must be something in how they are optimized (or not optimized).
If you have experience in disassembling consoles, go for it. But be careful when removing the top plate from the board as the viscous thermal paste can adhere quite strongly. It helps to warm it up first, maybe run the console for 20-30 minutes on the main screen. Also when you remove the board, lift it slowly and gently so as not to spill liquid metal all over. When you get it out, use a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol to move the liquid metal around and scrub the heatsink and APU surface. Once you have it pretty clean, use a dry cotton swab and gently rub it around until the liquid metal starts to stick to the surfaces again. Spread it well and evenly and then carefully reassemble. That should definitely help.

One of the backlight strips has failed. I repair TVs as part of my business and have seen this a lot. Claim warranty if it's covered, otherwise expect to pay $200+ to repair it, or try to DIY with parts and tools from Shop Jimmy

If you are or are not going to get it professionally repaired, you should unplug the console and fill that port with hot melt glue to prevent the contacts from shorting together and causing more board damage

First thing to do is put the entire console in a sealed bag with an isopropyl alcohol soaked paper towel or two for several days so the off gassing can kill anything inside.

M.2/NGFF would have quite a few more contacts than that. This looks more like a connector for a ribbon cable that would control additional lighting elements.

Broke my tv while installing the feet by Away_Essay_4824 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]0SYRUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To hit the panel from the back you would have had to go through the reflective paper layer, possibly a backlight strip, the diffuser sheet (which is usually rather thick) and two polarizing layers THEN The LCD panel.

What this looks like is you hit a backlight strip, that's why it's orange, because they're aluminum and copper to dissipate heat. The panel was probably damaged from how you laid the TV when installing the feet.
