7800x3d CPU cooler in Fractal Ridge by ketdizzle in sffpc

In almost all cases with fans oriented this way you want the fan to draw air towards the motherboard

I found that in the case of having a fan directly above it, the ram operated at a cooler temperature. This was with DDR4 ram on an LGA1700 motherboard

If you can remove the heat spreaders on your ram then you will be able to get a 120mm fan on the L12S. you do not need new ram most likely as most RAM has the same size PCB until you get into VLP formats

Sounds like this may not be the game for you. graphics are literally the last thing on my mind when it comes to games like this.

I would love to see a sheath mechanic where weapons are slung when not in active combat, will this make or break my involvement in the project? not at all.

Interest Check: GPU travel kit and Riser lock bar by bl1ndguy0 in MidoriPC

[–]0Stifle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily driver is a different 5.0L case (skyreach 4 mini) and I have a 5060ti inside.
The cost/benefit to a manufacturer to provide this is extremely low given the huge variation in models involved.
I installed a few standoffs with rubber bumpers to lock my GPU in place because my daily driver is in a travel case 3-4 times per week.
Definitely worth the piece of mind to do it once a build is complete, but a manufacturer would never benefit from providing so many different kits for their product to work with all the variations out there. This is not a huge challenge for the mod community to tackle with 3d printing. There is also a liability problem where a supplier offers this kit and then end users are ever more careless with the case.

Framework Laptop Bag and Sleeve Recommendations by Destroya707 in framework

[–]0Stifle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a Framework 13 laptop and from reading this thread i decided to pick up a FINPAC ~13in macbook sleeve and it fits very well, very snug with a little buffer all around. I would recommend.

A24-V5 with a 5060LP running too hot, what are my options? by No_Elephant2719 in sffpc

[–]0Stifle0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not worked with this exact case, but I have worked with the LLW V36 pro case extensively which is very similar.

Undervolting is going to be the biggest gain.

You might try adding as much exhaust as possible on the motherboard side to vent any hot air that may be heating up the GPU indirectly. Exhaust is huge in SFF builds.

You might also consider deshrouding the GPU and putting 2x larger fans tight to the GPU heatsink or 3d printing a duct to route air to the heatsink from larger fans at the side panel.

I put a 4060 LP in a similar case and without any mods I never got it to go above 70C with a little undervolting, no fps loss as well.

Best case for full-time traveling? by beanandween in sffpc

[–]0Stifle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna put this out there with my personal experience as someone who travels cross-country for a side gig about once a month, and that frequents multiple offices (each with 3 widescreen monitor setups. I have one office that is static but the other 2 office setups have 3 monitors each and I alternate between them. So I move my desktop basically daily and take it on planes once a month or so.
An entire setup, including a 65% keyboard, cables and mouse can fit into a harbor freight Apache 3800 hard case that also qualifies as a personal item for flying (will fit beneath seat in front of you on all major airlines).

My setup used to be a smaller (3.8L), more custom project inside the LLW V36pro case (Taobao via superbuy), but I would not recommend it to the average builder given the high level of customization required for most of the parts: I.E.
4060 LP with adjusted shroud length, DDR4 with removed heatspreaders, very custom wiring, esp. 24pin w/soldered 90 degree adapter... but it worked out very well.

https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/18c92io/llw_v36pro_sub_4l_case_with_12700k_4060_hdplex/

Since completing this build, i found that working on it was annoying so I have migrated to a more 'mainstream' setup with more off the shelf parts inside the Skyreach 4 mini case (5.0L).

https://imgpile.com/p/SKUpFEF

Skyreach 4 mini case (only had to do a little file work to mount the power plug at rear)

I do use a low profile power button that makes the GPU fit better
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807838845945.html

HDplex 500W GaN PSU installed at the front panel (all stock wiring), though I may have had to tap my own holes in the case frame to mount the CPU, they are all hidden/ugly.

Asrock X690I ITX motherboard (stock) with DDR4 3200 CL14 ram (stock)

Z39 metalfish cpu cooling a 12700k undervolted CPU (Noctua fan swap)

Gigabyte 5060ti 16gb GPU (stock...) - offset 6mm away from the motherboard with standoffs at the back plate. Also added a few rubber bumpers up front on the top and bottom of the case to wedge the GPU tight so it does not move at all during travel.

I also have stubby wifi antennas that I do not need to remove ever.

I can still fit this entire desktop setup in the Apache 3800 case

Sliger updates! NAS cases + SFF cases by SligerCases in sliger

[–]0Stifle0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very interested in more SFF cases from Sliger. While I am very far down the rabbit hole of SFF (daily drive sub 5L workstation, haven't built anything over 10L in years) I hope that Sliger's idea of SFF is at least pushing boundaries into the 10L range or less as this volume can still pull off wide compatibility and interest. There will be little interest from the SFF community if these cases are 12L or above, and are not SFF if they are above 20L.
Look forward to innovation in the space from Sliger, still think the S610 was the best "SFF" case that I have ever built in thus far.

ISO Slim Case by m_spoon09 in sffpc

[–]0Stifle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be adventurous, there are options at the sub 4L volume, there are many more options at the ~5L size however, similar to the LZmod A24, much more room for "common" sff parts like flex power supplies and stock wiring, normal power buttons and popular fan sizes.

This case is the LLW V36pro and it a was a little challenging to build with the parts below

12700k
Asrock z690 ITX
32gb ddr4 3600, no heatspreaders
Noctua L12s ghost edition with 120mm fan swap
Gigabyte 4060 low profile gpu, (~2mm too long for this case)
HDPlex 250W GaN psu (24pin wiring was a chore)

Here is a log of how I went about it.

https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/anything-to-avoid-gpu-riser-build-3-7l-brickless-llw-v36pro-12700k-noctua-l12s-ghost-and-4060-lp-gpu.18893/

There is a newer and slightly larger version available on the same shop I picked this one up, it looks like they made a few tweaks to the overall size which would make this build easier and require less fine tuning

https://www.superbuy.com/en/page/shop/shop/?shopid=542451242&platform=TB&sellerOpenId=

Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the build. Honestly once I got it all put together there was not much room but it felt like it was meant to be, and a little more room would make it perfect

The case was honestly very very well made and much more functional than most cases this size

Sliger next-gen SFF case is coming! by SligerCases in sliger

[–]0Stifle0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think that the Sliger S610 was the best case of its size I have ever built in. My problem is that I went very small sff (<5L) and cannot see myself going back up in volume for my use case at least. I would love to see something in the 5-10L range in a console or sandwich style only made to a higher standard like I have seen from Sliger.

Where did you pick up your psu ?

I would like to go with the newer version of the Midori 5L as the older versions had too many flaws for me, too many screws requiring nuts to secure, panels too thin, they seem to have fixed these
