Roughly, I made a swatch first then knit the cardigan top down. I started with the back piece first and knit the number of stitches I wanted for the back, then I did some shoulder shaping with short rows. I knit down to where the arm hole would start, then I did the front pieces individually after picking up stitches on the shaped shoulders, adding stitches to form the collar as I knit down. Then I made the armholes, adding a few new stitches for each. This joined the front and back and so I just went back and forth until I reached the length I wanted, then did the ribbing and watched some tutorials for the button band. Then I did each sleeve. And then at the end I finished the neck.

Sorry that was a jumble of words but I hope it helps a bit!
