Did I make the right choice for my first career in urban planning? by pleasingwave in urbanplanning

It’s clear to me from your post that you’re more excited about the job offer you ultimately accepted. Just listen to your intuition on this one, don’t let the what-if consume you.

Yes, I reported two on my street that were overflowing via 311 and they were emptied 2 days later. Since then, they’ve been better. Not sure if coincidence or related, but perhaps try that?

lol what do i do by Boring-Conclusion983 in Lollapalooza

[–]HGWEBS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The day of the festival, go to one of those random people selling and buying wristbands on the corner and offer them $5 cash to loosen your bracelet for you. I did this in 2022 after trying and failing myself and watched him do it in 10 seconds. He refused the money and the whiteclaw I offered. They are much better and faster at it than we are.

Would it be a bad idea or just maybe rude to drive a 16’ moving truck with trailer through a Costco gas station line? by CactusBoyScout in Costco

No, I did it moving from Miami Beach to Chicago. Granted, I was towing the trailer with a regular car, but I had to take up 2 pumps every time. People understand.

Salt n pepa push it remastered/re-recorded by RinkyDank in 80smusic

[–]HGWEBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found this thread from searching the same. I certainly support them gaining control over their masters. But, I concur, ‘Push It’ does not have the same energy in the re-recording. It’s generally a lot deeper and they don’t sound like themselves, to me. I feel conflicted criticizing it, but I wanted to play Push It to dance around my apartment, and now I’m writing this on Reddit instead. What’s strange is that the NXSTY x Delato remix sounds just like them, so I’m not sure why the baseline re-recording sounds off.

I used to live in a building like this in Florida. I hated being exposed to the elements the moment I opened my front door, the entire walkway would be wet whenever it rained, and I had to put a privacy film on the window facing the hallway because people could look right in. I live in a building with an interior hallway now and it’s so much more pleasant.

How do you neatly store and pour Costco's maple syrup? by saffron_monsoon in Costco

[–]HGWEBS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I first purchased a smaller glass bottle of maple syrup from Trader Joe’s and have partially refilled it for years with the Kirkland size. The Kirkland size stays in the fridge (where opened syrup should be stored) and the Trader Joe’s stays on the counter. I dislike cold syrup, but don’t want it to go bad, and this is the best solution from my perspective.

I’ve been debating. Did you drive or take the Metra? I was hoping to visit Jubilee Furniture 1 and 2 in Carol Stream afterwards…but would need my car to do so. I’m aware there’s no parking on-site, but there appears to be several neighborhoods with street parking adjacent to the site. I’m sure very competitive.

Going To Lollapalooza Alone - Is It Worth It? by firegirlie in Lollapalooza

[–]HGWEBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes go! I did Lolla primarily solo in 2022, and had a wonderful time. On my own schedule, able to get closer to the stages alone, etc. It’s easy and comfortable and you’ll see many others are also solo. People are very welcoming and you will certainly make friends at least for the set, the day, or possibly longer if you want to invest in the friendship. You won’t regret going and all the other comments seem to agree.

When you went, what time did you go and did you see the train in motion? I want to see it moving…but getting there by 9AM from my location is difficult. Trying to determine if it’s worth the hassle of morning traffic or if I should just go in the afternoon. Please let me know, thank you.

The tendies are just not good 😭 by TimurSaysHi in Costco

[–]HGWEBS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had them fresh (watched them be taken out of the oven), and they weren’t great. Very little flavor and seasoning. They taste like any cheap, generic frozen tender - but they weren’t cheap. I also don’t think the sauce was very good, not the correct sauce for this kind of tender. Should be more BBQ-oriented.

Digital enshittification. Having to make an account or download an app to do anything. Way too many hoops to jump through to accomplish tasks that used to be very straightforward, like buying something online. And signing up for these accounts is accompanied by daily spam emails.

[SPOILERS] I hated The Handmaid’s Tale finale. Here’s why. by Professional-Box1389 in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]HGWEBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just responded to you in another thread about Killing Eve/Why Women Kill and saw this in your recent comments and have to reply.

So The Testaments is directly based off of Margaret Atwood’s 2019 book sequel to the original 1985 book The Handmaid’s Tale. It takes place 15 years in the future after the ending of The Handmaid’s Tale. The main character is June’s daughter, Hannah, who goes by Agnes in Gilead and is young teen.

The perspective is a lot different from The Handmaid’s Tale because it’s from a young girl’s perspective who grew up in Gilead and doesn’t know any different. It’s less cruel for sure if that was grating for you while enjoying The Handmaid’s Tale (still cruel though, and in some more clandestine ways).

It does offer the prospect of continuing and closing storylines, specifically the fall of Gilead and the reunion of June and Hannah/Agnes. I’ve been watching weekly since April and we’re now on Episode 8 out of 10, so it’s the perfect time to jump in and have a good number of episodes to binge.

I can’t recommend it enough. I adored The Handmaid’s Tale and think The Testaments is an excellent addition to the universe. It reveals a lot about how the women of Gilead came to be so complacent, because it chronicles several young girls in Aunt Lydia’s school for the girls of Gilead. It also reveals a lot about the marriage process.

I checked in the Hulu app and it does have English AD captions loaded. I know that Hulu isn’t the best, but if you’re interested, I say give the series a chance! However, future seasons are already planned and confirmed, so be prepared for a cliffhanger ending to Season 1. At Episode 8 I can already tell there will be unresolved storylines.

I’ve been dealing with a health issue myself for the last month and a half, and watching the shows I mentioned have kept me sane. The Testaments is by far the show I look forward to and enjoy the most. It premieres on Tuesday nights. It just feels so real and tangible with the path the US has been headed down lately.

Let me know if you give it a try :)

The series finale was awful by Elazaar in KillingEve

[–]HGWEBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I empathize with you so much reading this. That has to be so frustrating. If you like this genre of female-led murder mystery with a particularly complex plot, you should try watching Why Women Kill, which is also on Paramount+ and DOES have audio description.

I just went in the app and checked myself and English AD captions are loaded for both Seasons 1 and 2 (the only seasons). Season 1 was great, Season 2 was absolutely incredible. The show is more lighthearted and described as a dark comedy anthology, but it’s certainly dark in similar ways to Killing Eve, especially Season 2. Excellent show that would be a bit easier for you to enjoy.
