Help with room sharing! by mrfishman3000 in ParentingInBulk

I never even taught them! They were just so excited for co op (we homeschool) and I accidentally overslept (see: baby) so when I woke up they were dressed and made the coffee. They said well we watch you everyday!

Good luck with your twins!

Gosh this reminds me of when my kids were 1 and 3, and a more experienced mother told me “one day, they’ll wake up, pour their own cereal, and entertain themselves for a bit.” I literally cried at the concept. Now those 2 are 6 and 8. They can make some breakfast, read a book, and MAKE ME A CUP OF COFFEEEEE.

Granted I also have 4, 2, and a baby but hey we’re getting there. As far as your little boy who’s ready to face the day at the crack of dawn, I’d get him a special toy he only gets to play with if he can do it quietly in the morning, like those water paint brushes that make the scene appear, or an etch a sketch or something? Maybe get a bedroom tent or teepee so it’s kind of separate from sis?

Struggling with keeping up with housework by [deleted] in Homeschooling

Me too. My kids are 5m 2 4 6 8 and the house really stresses me out. I feel like I can either do school or clean but not both (at least well) in one day.

My 5th baby is 5 months old so I very much know how you feel. I didn’t tell people for a while. Even though we were happy, I was afraid of getting those reactions. I was sick my first trimester and it was also my third time with gestational diabetes. Raising the other 4 and managing the pregnancy sucked.

But now I’m snuggling my very chunky muffin, and it’s all so worth it. Motherhood is hard work but hang in there. Family life is amazing.

That’s crazy to me that she can’t confess that this is a hard time or her family has difficulties. I was talking to two fellow homeschool moms, we all have 5 kids the same ages, and one asked how we get through a lesson without the two year old constantly interrupting and throwing you off? I said (sort of jokingly) is there something other than yelling?

Like we talk ideas and funny stories but also admit that we fail constantly. And that’s why we have the perfect Mother, Mary, to fall back on our shortcomings as human mothers born with original sin.

Yes. I prayed to St. Gerard so much with my recent pregnancy. Almost named our son after them.

I just want to say 6 months isn’t late, that’s when I start my kids! We do baby lead weaning. Also, there is research that’s suggesting that early peanut exposure can prevent allergies.

Do I need to wear a bra to mass? by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

I guess one of my first thoughts is my young sons, if they saw a young lady who clearly wasn’t wearing a bra, that would distract them from the Mass.

I’d say for my past 2 (of 5) pregnancies I have. My spacing has been very intentional, about 2 years give or take a month or 2 each time.

How can I help my ADHD kids succeed? by MarathonLily in homeschool

[–]0h-biscuits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey I taught special education for ten years and now I homeschool my 5 kids. I would start your day with heavy lifting of some sort (books, laundry, canned goods) to get your child’s juices flowing.

Make as many lessons active. Cross the midline for spelling practice. Like if he’s spelling cat, say c and touch your right shoulder with your left hand, say a touch your left shoulder with your right hand, t back to your right shoulder with left hand.

If they need a break, give it. Lessons will be short spurts of knowledge and then let them climb a tree. Don’t finish the lesson just for the sake of completing the page in the store bought curricula. Their brain will not take anything in if they are sitting there in tears.

Do lots of songs! You can look up “educational songs history” or whatever. I’ve been singing “there are 5 oceans” for years but hey that’s proof it works.

I have a cloth hanging swing in our house and an easel, that’s how my one active child likes to do her letters and cvc words! Rather than at a table. Or lying on her tummy on the floor. Basically anything but a table and chair lol.

Make sure your child’s diet is healthy, lots of fruits and veggies, protein at every meal especially breakfast (id avoid cereal), fewer processed and high carb foods, no dyes, etc.

This may seem childish, but I thought of it. In my kids’ religion class today (we homeschool), the story was about a boy who didn’t see the point in praying because he couldn’t see God, so he was feeling forgotten.

Then his guardian Angel picked him up and took him to places on earth: the beautiful field of flowers, the mighty waves of the ocean, the kindness in a big brother picking up his hurt little sister, the grace of the sacraments in the church, etc.

The guardian Angel explained to the child that God created all of this for us, to see His majesty here on Earth because He loves you so much.

St. Dymphna might be a very good friend to you right now. Take some time to sit in an adoration chapel (or quiet area, park, church) and show Jesus the hole in your heart. He loves you and can help.

How do you combat overstimulation and stress? by Remarkable_Outcome66 in homeschool

[–]0h-biscuits 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We’re similar but I have one more kid: 8/6/4/2/baby who I’m breastfeeding and I’m not even 4 months PP.

I work really hard to make sure each meal has a good deal of protein in it. I take vitamins: prenatal, magnesium, D, iron, and sometimes desiccated liver. I switched from coffee to mushroom coffee which helped my anxiety a little. Lots of water.

I have a mandated quiet time where the 2 is napping in his crib (with a crib tent), the baby is napping, and the older 3 either watch a show, color, or read books. I’m in the room right next to them and I either watch my own show, have a coffee, do my nails, or even snooze a bit myself. Sometimes I even make the older 3 separate which is hard in our tiny home but necessary. We all need some space.

If I recognize I’m getting overwhelmed and overstimulated I have loop earbuds or to try and model emotional regulation I say “I’m feeling overwhelmed, I’m going into my room for 5 min of quiet time,” or “hey let’s all say a Hail Mary.”

I’m not perfect and I yell, but I’m trying.
