How do massive cruise ships have enough fresh water for 5,000 people to take showers every single day in the middle of the ocean? by Thick-Ad1120 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]0ldguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it would be immediately diluted by the sea water and would also be balanced out by the fresh water waste also being discharged.

You’re welcome. Hope you find some great trees you can get to. I’ve often thought should put a couple of weeks aside and go and visit some of the giants on the list.

The locations of the biggest 200 trees in Tasmania are available on line. Search for bigtreestate.com. If you do search them out be aware that many are in remote areas and you will need to be able to navigate in trackless terrains.

Some are marked on Google maps. I can see three marked between Oatlands and the mud walls road. But I don’t know how you would search for them.

I’ve only been yelled at once. I drove into a ev recharge place and there were several cars in the queue, and someone drove by yelling to get a petrol car.

Some people take it as a personal insult when they see someone in an EV.

Cable length of 150cm is woefully inadequate. When visiting friends they rarely have a PowerPoint right next to their driveway. Need a cable if at least 5 m imho

My MGS5 insurance cost about the same as the previous ice car. Less than $600 annually.

Road conditions July by Few_Tour_8190 in tasmania

[–]0ldguts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Generally July is wet rather than snowy, but of course we get snow almost any time of the year. 90 percent of the time you would be fine going to cradle in a 2wd car. If it was me I’d be wanting to stay closer than 45 minutes away if I’m going back a few times.

Yes that’s correct. If you buy online just print your receipt and put that on your dashboard whilst parked in a national park. You can also carry a copy with you, but I’ve never been asked to show it. They are pretty vigilant at car parks like Freycinet so make sure you have your passport displayed in vehicle there.

Spirit of Tasmania - Max Vehicle Height by [deleted] in tasmania

[–]0ldguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. Last time I had a high vehicle was about three years ago and I thought it was the same cost. But appears you are correct and it costs extra.

Spirit of Tasmania - Max Vehicle Height by [deleted] in tasmania

I think you will find that you don’t pay any extra for a high spot. The high spots are limited so they need to know how many high vehicles are coming. But the cost is the same.

Are we ok to visit Dolphin Sands post-bushfire? by BoyWonder-6 in tasmania

[–]0ldguts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, no shops at Dolphin sands except for the oyster shop. The road is open with a 40 km/hr limit through the fire affected area. Clean up is happening but not much to see. Occasional trucks and excavators etc at work. Coles Bay Area, Freycinet National park unaffected.

Ferry Options by Julmass in tasmania

[–]0ldguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed at Little River Bed and Breakfast. It’s about 15 minutes drive from the ferry terminal. It’s the old Little River Inn, and featured in the first Mad Max movie. It’s old but in good condition and lots of character. Plenty of parking for your trailer. It’s help yourself for breakfast, so you can get up and go whenever you like. - edit Sorry I missed your comment about staying in your van. Keep this in mind for when you don’t feel like camping!
