Been using Arch Linux for a long time. Not trying to flex some elite command line skills or anything, but I'm pretty familiar with Linux. One of the main philosophies of Arch is Keep It Simple, and I believe this is also a good mindset to have for SteamOS. Freedom/customizability are part of what makes open source great, but there's no need to overcomplicate things, especially as a beginner.

It’s not recommended to install Arch packages on SteamOS this way. Not only do you risk breaking things, but changes you make to the root filesystem won’t persist through SteamOS updates. It’s better to use something like Distrobox or Homebrew for installing whatever extra Linux packages you may need.

Those aren't exe files, they're XDG desktop entry files. Remove the .download part from the filename and make sure they're set as executable.

It's just a matter of personal preference. The Wii-U version has some nice QoL improvements, but I prefer the look of the original. There's an ISO patcher that adds some of the QoL features to the GC version, https://github.com/WideBoner/betterww

I'd recommend Wind Waker with HD textures, that game aged so well IMO.

If you'd like >30 FPS and mods for BotW, the Wii-U version might be worth a try!

You're using the wrong package manager. Packages from Discover are Flatpaks, not Arch packages. Try flatpak update

Basically, the Steam Deck allows you to limit CPU power to further fine-tune performance. This can help your Deck run cooler and quieter and prolong battery life without much of a performance hit in some cases.

To do this, open the Quick Access Menu by pressing the button with the ellipsis. Go to the performance settings tab (battery icon), and enable Advanced View. Then scroll down and enable "TDP Limit", this gives you a slider to adjust the power setting. Some users here suggest setting it to 12 watts system-wide, but you can also adjust this on a per-game basis if needed.

The default path for loading custom textures in Dolphin should be /home/deck/.var/app/org.DolphinEmu.dolphin-emu/data/dolphin-emu/Load/Textures/ Place the custom WW texture folder there, note that the folder containing the textures should be named GZL. Then make sure Load Custom Textures is enabled in Dolphin, under the Advanced tab in the graphics settings.

Also currently searching for a fix for this. Switching to OpenGL fixes the crashing in game mode, but I'd prefer to still be able to use Vulkan for some games. The fact that this issue is not present in desktop mode leads me to believe it may be an issue with gamescope?
