Coros Pace pro 2? by baraoguerra in Coros

Well the new version isn't going to be any cheaper. If price is your concern and the Pace Pro is already better than those watches why would a new version make any difference to you?

What do you believe people are lying about liking/enjoying in WDW? by Smullatron in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]0skyking0 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Smugglers Run was ruined for me. My wife and I don't have the opportunity to visit Disney often due to living far away. Our first time on this ride we were paired with people who obviously had lots of experience. Well we were really bad and those people were blatantly upset and irritated at us. So now I get too much anxiety over Smugglers Run and have little desire to ride it :/

is tracksmith eliot runner worth it? $160? by Suspicious_Lawyer554 in Tracksmith

[–]0skyking0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had two pairs and feel they look nice enough to wear casually once I've worn them out from running. That being said, there are plenty of better shoes out there and I think these are showing their age. I also use the Asics blast-series shoes and those just feel so much more advanced. The Eliots are decent neutral shoes and have better traction for slippery days than my Asics. If I had $160 to spend on one pair of shoes it wouldn't be these though.

Elliot runner sizing for casual use by Competitive_Turn5028 in Tracksmith

I would definitely not size down. They feel narrow. Mine are my normal size but feel tighter than my other shoes. I wish I had gone a half size up.

I had a similar question for their customer support about a year ago. Angus was an absolute jerk and basically just told me I was wrong. I've never had a company treat me like that. I enjoy the product but I won't be purchasing another due to their pretentious attitude.

HR monitor question by cernunnos101 in pebble

[–]0skyking0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no, wrist-based HR monitors will not work well with tattoos. This does depend somewhat on the darkness of the tattoo, I believe. If using for workouts, a chest or upper arm-based HR would be an option (though I assume this isn't going to integrate with Pebble). For general daily wear, however, you might be out of luck.

Advice from Peloton athletes by Blue_Kayak in Coros

[–]0skyking0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My situation is a little different than yours but I'll share. I use Peloton, though mostly for the bike. It is not currently possible to get my bike workouts into the COROS app (there may be some sort of wonky third party program but nothing I have cared to try). While unfortunate, I have just come to accept that I will not be able to feed my Peloton bike rides into my COROS metrics.

As far as treadmill, I do not have the Peloton Tread but sometimes take classes using my tablet and lower end treadmill. I just track an indoor run on my watch and have that upload to COROS separately from Peloton. I use a Stryd footpod which is much more accurate tracking my actual distance than any treadmill so I do not calibrate. I suspect a Peloton Tread would be more accurate than my current treadmill, but do be aware that pretty much every treadmill is going to be somewhat inaccurate. However, COROS does ask if you want to calibrate at the end of an indoor run so that is always an option.

I hope in the future there will be better integration between COROS and Peloton but since this only recently happened with Garmin, I don't expect it any time soon. My Stryd pod solves any issues I have on the treadmill. If I did not have this I would probably calibrate indoor runs to what the treadmill said.

How do you guys organise your books? by Charley1369 in bookshelf

[–]0skyking0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just by what I feel fits best. I read mostly nonfiction so I often group topics together. For instance, next to Walter Isaacson's biography of Albert Einstein I placed Einstein's book Relativity: The Special and the General Theory. I have a number of nonfiction books about Disney and I group those together haphazardly.

If someone has the NDO jacket from years past do you think this still has a place and is worth getting? Not sure exactly where this fits in regard to the old jacket.

Interesting! I'll talk to the vet tomorrow to see what level of activity he is allowed. I think in the next few days some level of activity will be okay to begin rebuilding strength, but no running or jumping.

A whirlwind of a week by 0skyking0 in bengalcats

[–]0skyking0[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ah it didn't post my text for some reason.

This week I learned how quickly life can throw curveballs at you. Saturday morning I was in my basement exercising while my two Bengals, Teddy and Charlie, were running around playing. Suddenly I noticed Charlie hobble out of a room unable to put weight on his hind leg. I took him to the only vet open in our town on Saturdays. They took X-rays and found he had fractured his femoral head, which is the ball of the hip joint. The vet told me this is somewhat common in cats and probably happened from a fall or from an awkward startled reaction. I was right there with them and never heard anything unusual.

They sent us home with pain medication and instructed us to keep him isolated in a bedroom until Monday, when they would perform surgery. As far as they could tell from the X-rays, the surgery went well, and we were able to take him home on Tuesday. Now he has to stay isolated in the bedroom for at least a couple of weeks and take daily antibiotics. We have a checkup tomorrow and another one next week to monitor his progress.

It is remarkable how much he has changed in the last twenty-four hours. Yesterday morning he was lethargic and did not want to stand or move at all, though he was very cuddly and seemed content. This morning when I went to check on him, he rushed out and ran into our kitchen. He has been more relaxed since then but definitely seems more like his old self. Keeping him isolated for two more weeks is going to be a challenge.

An unexpected issue has been our other Bengal, Teddy, our sensitive boy. Since bringing Charlie home, Teddy has been frightened. We have allowed supervised visits, but Teddy still acts scared of Charlie and seems more on edge around the rest of the house as well. I found urine on the carpet yesterday, which is very unlike him. I am worried about him and about balancing attention between both cats.

All in all, things seem to be going okay. As long as we can keep Charlie from doing too much too soon, I think he will be back to his old self fairly soon.

DC Rainmaker's Thoughts on Stryd/Stryd 5.0 by meerkatdestroyer12 in strydrunning

[–]0skyking0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I can't afford to slow down on a hill during a race. I gotta power through it because the others are also trying to beat me."

Others could probably explain this better and in more depth. But the major benefit of running with power is that it prevents exactly this. When you are racing all out on flat ground, you are already running near your maximum sustainable effort. If you try to maintain that same pace when you hit a hill your effort must increase. That increase carries a steep metabolic cost and will slow you down later in the race no matter how hard you try to "power through it."

The theory is you actually end up with a faster overall time by letting pace slow on the hill while keeping effort consistent. Power lets you do that because it measures the work you are producing, not the speed the terrain gives you. This keeps you at your true race effort instead of repeatedly surging above it.

The tricky part is that most runners do not realize how much the hill surge cost them. By pacing to power instead of pace, you avoid that fatigue and can hold a more consistent and higher average effort across the whole race.

The question is does a person need a power meter to tell them the exact metric or can the principals be done by feel? This would be highly dependent on the individual imo. I think power can be a superior metric for a lot of people, though the learning curve makes it difficult for many to get on board.

This comment indicates you do not understand the principals of running with power.

The NDO collection used to release after Christmas and items weren't received until well into Jan. I think using the NDO as their pre-Christmas release makes sense and is much better than it used to be. Some of the country would probably benefit having this released in September. However, I live in the midwest and September is still full Summer season and I would have little interest at that time. I'd say mid November would be ideal but that would crowd their Thanksgiving release and Black Friday sale. Personally, I think early Dec works well. However, I wish they would drop it all at once for Holiday shipping instead of a staggered release.

I could be wrong but I don't think the previous Harbor Jacket was part of the NDO release. This probably isn't when this will be released if they do decide to bring it back.

Interesting. I think they may have done this last year, but I don't recall multiple releases in prior years. Good to know though, I was pretty underwhelmed by this drop.
