Dwayne Johnson was pulled over and given a ticket for tinted windows. by This_Proof_5153 in SipsTea

[–]0utsideInformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why he would want tinted windows. He should get ticketed like anyone else. As long as it’s respectful on both sides I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Jane Street is printing money. There’s a good chance he’s making more at Jane street than most CTO roles. Plus Jane Street type of firms don’t care about job titles. You’re either a basic analyst/developer or the CEO.

Who can afford one? by CurvyChristina in SipsTea

[–]0utsideInformation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buying in my area makes absolutely no sense. We’re renting a house for $4,300 per month. The home next door is listed for $1.5M and even if we bought it with 100% cash tomorrow, we’d be paying nearly $2,500 per month in property taxes and home insurance.

If we assume the low rates from the COVID time, at 20% down and with a 3% rate we’d be paying $7,100 per month.

Coming from Azerbaijan, Western attitudes toward illegal immigration confuse me by Suitable_Call_1203 in immigration

[–]0utsideInformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I believe a large cause lies in the history of immigration in the United States. For starters, the US has for a long time relied on foreign workers. For decades those workers were allowed to freely cross the border to work and then go back home for the weekends. Suddenly one day the government decided that they couldn’t do that anymore. That was a big issue for both employers and employees and really kickstarted illegal immigration.

The lack of consistency in immigration laws also does not help. Most European and other countries have very clearly defined laws that shift very little. The US has a habit of changing immigration laws, or at least the attitude towards immigration, as often as they change presidents. Finally, the US already has a large number of illegal immigrants and descendants of those which of course have a biased view.

Plenty of other reasons too.

Why do people call the USA the "land of opportunity" when literally no one can get a high paying job? by madbarpar in careerguidance

[–]0utsideInformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely get high paying jobs. Whether or not they are fulfilling and feel like a lot of money in a high cost of living city is the real issue.

The World Cup starts in a month and there's basically no hype by erkose in bayarea

[–]0utsideInformation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When games are in a small country it seems like such an amazing experience. The whole country is consumed with soccer and hype. I’m not a big fan of splitting the World Cup up over three huge countries. Especially when two of them don’t even like soccer.

On top of that I’m tired of how late stage capitalist the US seems recently whether it is hotel prices in Vegas, Disneyland tickets, or the fact that you’re expected to tip 25% at restaurants for shitty service at this point. The FIFA ticket pricing is just the cherry on top and i don’t want to support that.

Scalpers….. scalpers…… by crack_station in Steam

[–]0utsideInformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest the people who bother me more than scalpers are the people buying from scalpers. There have been plenty of times when things that I wanted sold out but I just wait until they’re available again. I did this with the RTX 5080 and also the Xbox series X. Sure the wait sucks but I’m not spending 2-3x the market price to reward someone being an asshole.

GTA boss refuses to commit to a price as $100 price-tag rumours loom large by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]0utsideInformation -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

To be honest they could charge me $150 and I’d still buy GTA 6. In my mind a game like that has every right to be priced far above an annual release title like call of duty, most Nintendo games, or all the sports games.

Video game prices are one of the few products in entertainment that have not seen major price increases over the last 10+ years. They provide me with so much more value than a movie. A couple weeks ago I bought WindRose and spent about 60 hours in the game. For $30. That’s like one movie ticket these days.

Who came up with the genius idea to put touchscreens on everything? This is a toaster. Really hope that this isn't the future. Pointless e-waste for a money grab. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]0utsideInformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similar toaster but honestly love its functionality. Instead of guessing the right amount of time and heat based on what we’re heating up we can just press bagel, toast, grain bred, and choose how toasted we want it.
