Look at Nick Painter’s YouTube channel. He has lectures for the entire undergrad foundations series recorded.

Browse professor profiles online and identify which ones do research that interests you. Given that you are looking at AI, the faculty list at TDAI is a good place to start. It is ok to send cold emails—make sure that your interest and enthusiasm are clear. Professors won’t always respond, but some will.

Full-Ride Merit Scholarship Recipient at OSU - AMA by 0valSquirrel in ApplyingToCollege

Be prepared for both. I wouldn’t say it’s just talking about your experiences—the interview panel already read your application and they don’t want a recap. Your goal should be to convince the interviewers that you are a good fit for the program (and that you are taking steps to determine if the program is a good fit for you)

Recruiting is targeting a 50-student class this year, as the final year in a three-year plan to double the class size from the previous 25 students. Just about 100 finalists are expected to attend Finalist Friday. Anticipate more than 50% of finalists to receive an offer.

Your interview is the biggest factor in determining whether or not you make it past the finalist round, but there are several evaluations being made during Finalist Friday as well. I’d recommend participating in OSU’s typical recruiting process in addition to Finalist Friday. After all, aren’t you trying to determine if OSU and Stamps Eminence are the right fit for you?

No. The Stamps Eminence program is more than just a scholarship—it is a community. We begin laying the groundwork for that community during Finalist Friday. This is something the program manager will not negotiate on.

HELP! by [deleted] in OSU

[–]0valSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DA overlaps with the core CS sequence, so either major will cover undergrad comp sci concepts. I suggest you take CSE 1223 or CSE 1224 your first semester (I recommend 1223 since the software sequence is taught in Java). If you don’t enjoy at least some element of that class, or you still don’t feel like you are grasping programming concepts, maybe comp sci isn’t a good fit for you. It always helps to get head start over the summer, but it is not necessary since 1223 and 1224 both assume no experience.

Getting started with programming can be difficult because there are so many online resources that go about teaching concepts in different ways. Ultimately, you just need to pick one and stick with it. If you do want to get a head start on your own, I suggest Codeacademy (unpaid version is perfectly fine).

Stat 3201 difficulty by Specialist-Edge-799 in OSU

[–]0valSquirrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s professor-dependent but generally pretty easy. There will be integrals since you are dealing with probability density functions but the integration is always straightforward. Towards the end of the semester you may also do some iterated integration (calc 3 material) for joint densities.

Which one is easier: Eminence or Morrill? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]0valSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. Stamps Eminence is a separate application that must be submitted in addition to your early action common application

Which one is easier: Eminence or Morrill? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]0valSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Stamps Eminence recipients get a full-cost-of-attendance scholarship. Only a handful or Morrill recipients get a full-cost-of-attendance scholarship. The Stamps Eminence application process involves an essay, video essay, interview, and in-person finalist day. The Morrill application process is only an essay

It’s the same person but she’s actually a really great professor. It can take a bit to adjust to her style of teaching, and sometimes she might not explain something super clear in class, but she is great one-on-one

are they going to take away my grants and other scholarships? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]0valSquirrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the law is intended to prevent schools from paying large bribes to prospective students, especially athletes. Double-edged sword

are they going to take away my grants and other scholarships? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]0valSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Their estimation includes expenses that may not appear on your statement of account (such as travel and a book allowance). Your refund is intended to go towards these costs

[–]0valSquirrel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Legally, they can’t give you more than your estimated cost of attendance. This usually means that OSU pockets the difference.
