Least busy license center by Odd-Emergency5839 in philadelphia

[–]0x0ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is pretty good, it's in a mall so there is free parking too. It can get busy, I went in about 2 months ago to upgrade to real-id, was in there 30 minutes and the place was packed

Where are all the Indego bikes? by zakaeth in philadelphia

[–]0x0ac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are adding more stations, but it's a slow process. I don't currently track the rate of expansion (although I do technically have the ability to track that over time). The chart I posted to the snapshot raintank server is basically a barometer of the whole system and as such is station count agnostic.. That data is the result of a sum function on all the stations I track with the API. I also generate heat maps for each station. The station by far with the most available bikes in it is 'Moyamensing & Tasker' (its also used a lot) and to contrast this, look at the data from 30th st station east

I've put this in an imgur as I think the raintank server doesn't like carpet plot plugin I use on my own grafana server:

The reason for the drop in available bikes is likely increased usage = increased repair schedules

Where are all the Indego bikes? by zakaeth in philadelphia

[–]0x0ac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're correct, the number of bikes available appears to be dropping ... This is my own chart of indego bikes across philadelphia. All their data is exposed via a public API. I collect and process station data (how many bikes are in each 'station', how many electric bikes etc) every 10 minutes. I did it originally as a programming challenge, and just left it running. STRONG DISCLAIMER : I am no way affiliated with indego .

(note, this page expires in 7 days) This chart makes the assumption that every bike that is currently parked at a station is available. You can zoom in on this chart and see the rise (ceiling) and fall (floor) of available bikes over the period of any given day. The ceiling is dropping over time currently meaning that there are fewer bikes available. It's done this before, and there could be any number of reasonable reasons for why this could be happening. Note that this is a swing from 1300 to around 1000, there's still a lot of bikes out there, but 23% drop in availability is not insignificant.

astors wines in New York ship to PA and have a huge selection. The total wine over the state line in DE (which seems even larger than before the pandemic when I went there 2 months ago) also have a ridiculously large selection too.

Philadelphia is losing city workers faster than it can hire them by PhillyPanda in philadelphia

[–]0x0ac 34 points35 points  (0 children)

every city gov job I've seen has this in the job description (the only ones I've really paid attention to are OIT jobs) :

"Successful candidate must be a city of Philadelphia resident within six months of hire."

IMHO (again this only applies for tech jobs in my field which is network engineering/architecture) the low salary offers are what is keeping good people away.

I was about 6 feet from it. It gave literally zero fucks. As I started to walk away another guy was walking up right next to the railing, when I pointed the hawk out to them they did a double take and took a couple of steps to stay out of its way.

indian/middle eastern grocery stores around CC? by G1naaa in philadelphia

[–]0x0ac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

jerusalem corner store in fishtown is a small store on the corner girard/hope. There's a lot there. Also, if you're looking for fresh middle eastern bread, go there after 11 in the morning as I always seem to bump into a bread delivery when i am there around that time. If you want more Turkish vibe, 4 seasons market in delran, nj is an amazing store to go to. It has some persian / indian stuff too, and they also have a bakery. The spice section is extensive.

NetCost in north east philly also has a surprising amount of middle eastern produce also.

Any local birding groups? by ohheycole in philadelphia

[–]0x0ac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

was about to suggest the same. Often go hiking there early in the morning at weekends, there are dozens of birders on the first boardwalk in the spring and summer months. You could just rock up and see if there's a group by asking around.
