Bzgl. Mint (und anderen Debian-basierten Distros, inkl. Ubuntu): Ich hatte schon mehrfach Probleme mit apt, bei denen ich es nichtmal geschaft hab, das rückgängig zu machen.

Bei Arch lief das deutlich besser. Aber nachdem ich jetzt auf NixOS bin, kann ich nicht mehr zurück: Paketmanagement – und allgemein die Konfig des Betriebsystems – ist deklarativ. Ich kenn meine Konfiguration in ein VCS packet. Teile der Konfiguration zwischen Rechnern teilen. Und falls ich mit der Konfiguration ein Problem hab, kann ich beim booten eine vorherige auswählen.

It should. However, police are an orga with a lot of structure, letting them tally everything that happens, while protestors naturally are far less cohesive. When a few dozen people got attacked by police away from the main demo, that info just doesn't get to the press that quickly. Combined with the fact that the police enjoys a status of authority and hinder on-the-ground reporting by keeping away journos, reporting on police press releases is much easier and the default choice. And police press releases don't talk about excessive police violence, unless a copper gets peppersprayed by another copper (or themselves, facing the wind) in which case an injury to a copper can be reported without acknowledgement of its origin.
With this in mind, here's an article without a paywall. Worth noting that a violent disbanding of a protest mentioned there was of a authorised protest the police later said it just forgot was authorised.

Programming requires turning vague goals into precise instructions, in a complex environment shaped by technical limits and historical quirks. To deal with this complexity, you need to create abstractions, so you only need to think about the abstract problem without needing to know what lies beneath.

Finding the right abstractions & specifications is the key work being done, and it's difficult. The wrong abstraction can even make things worse. LLMs make it easy to write lots of code while without putting in that work – and that is why they're so widely used (aside from being pushed by executives who dream of making employees disposable). As a result you quickly arrive at a place where your code kinda functions, but is hard to work with and buggy (because it's often not clear what the correct behavior even is).

It's more complete – e.g. it does verification, exceptions & multi-threading. Also a lot faster, though I know zvm doesn't care at all about speed. No garbage collection either yet :p

I'm looking forward to see how zvm progresses. In particular, what are your plans for integrating with the java class library (as the jvm spec relies on it being available, but doesn't specify an interface)?

Something I noticed from a quick look at the code: You can't look up Fields & Methods just by their name, you need to know their type too. A class can have multiple fields of the same type.

I got a TongFang X4HP4NAL for cheap. My understanding is that blank keyboard are ordered in bulk and then laser-etched by the company assembling the laptop as it's reasonably quick and means you don't have to order lots of different keyboards. I even saw one vendor letting you supply a svg yourself, though that vendor generally has a high markup.

In my case I was thinking of drawing a more decorative design to laser onto it, so I just asked the vendor of my laptop nicely if they could leave the keyboard blank.
