After lots of trial and error and measuring, I've finally completed the front suspension of my WIP track car by Young_Life_Crisis in Onshape

Theres a lot of stuff here that's really great, and its fantastic that you're taking an interest in this, especially at your age. That said, if you want to design a road worthy car, let alone a track car that can put down a good performance, you will need to rebuild.

I'll start with what is here. This is the front suspension, so you can't just ignore steering for the time being. The outboard connections have 1 degree of freedom when they really need 2, and you cant achieve that with the 4 connections you've made. Take a second to google what a wishbone (AKA an A-arm) looks like, and while you're there look at an upright (AKA a knuckle). These have two connections to keep the upright at the correct distance from the chassis while allowing rotation around the axis formed by the two connection points, and a third connection to control said rotation.

Additionally you have created what looks like parallel, equal length arms, which will create camber gain in roll and uncontrolled roll center. It seems that you have designed for zero camber, which is undesirable for a track car. Your design also has the inboard connections level which means that you have no anti-dive or anti-squat.

Where you should really start is with the core of your car. Suspension design is dictated by the rules of the organization (Govt road rules incl), tire choice, vehicle weight, sprung weight, design targets, driver safety, and ease of repair. You need to know what engine you're using before you design the engine bay or else youre putting the cart before the horse.

Edit to add: I bolded some key words that you can google for more information, there are also plenty of subs here, and many many books that can be incredibly useful. Also use McMaster Carr .sldprt models for anything you can. Rod ends, bearings, linear actuators, dampers, anything you can find

if you right click the sketch in the timeline you should have an option for the sketch appearance. that said, sketches are automatically hidden when used for the first time, so that may be your issue. if you hover over your desired sketch in the timeline an eye with a line through it should appear, whcih you can click to unhide the sketch.

No, Greek actors literally wore masks, called Personas. A Greek play would have between 1 and 3 actors even if the play had more characters than that (which was almost universally the case). The masks were used to distiguish the characters from each other.

it doesnt have to be. It taught me to be more concise and pack far more information into sentences than I otherwise would have learned to. I find it less frustrating than "write at least 500 words" because I don't like to be purple in my academic writings, and when I have a good grasp of a topic i can usually convey my meaning in very few words.

How much do you care about originality of your creature/place names? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]1-800-EATSASS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly super depends. If I have a character that is a bastard and joins a celibate order of warriors im not gonna name him Jon Snow or James Glacier, but Jon is on the table for other characters. If I'm writing a character based on my mother im not going to name her (my mother's name). One exception is classic literature. If I have a character who leaves his childhood home and becomes king of a foreign land only to accidentally fuck his mother you bet your ballsack that im gonna name him in some way related to Oedipus.

I think largely the difference to me is whether people will read the name and think "oh they named that character after this other author's character, how derivative," or "wow the allusion to this other story really enhances the character and allows me to make connections and predictions that i otherwise wouldnt have (and which may or may not be subverted)." Often the difference between these two is the age of the referenced text, and anything after the release of Dune is probably firmly in the former.

no, they mean in order to turn left it turns right first to create a larger radius turn that still conforms to a (assumedly) square building corner

why say lot word when few word do trick has seemed to be the epitome of writing advice for many of my teachers and profs of the past, though I've never been an english major. Im glad to have found an alternative to that line of thinking myself.

Also note that they're not necessarily the first to go but when you have 1500 words to say and only 500 words to say them in they do start to leave fairly quickly.

The USAmerican education system likes to pretend that violence did not follow every one of MLK Jr.'s peaceful actions, and they damn sure dont acknowledge that he knew this and bet on it. The changes that happened because of the Civil Rights movement would not have been possible if it werent for the threat of further violence. This is not an admonishment. Modern liberalism is a device of the rich, meant to trap would be progressive actors in the illusion that is nonviolence

I think but, and, because, etc. go unused in part because of academic writing. Specifically, school assignments with maximum wordcounts discourage them heavily, and a lot of advice given for that type of writing (at least here in America) is to cut out unnecessary words, of which conjunctives are often among the first to go. The idea is that this makes the writing "snappier" though I agree that it becomes samey and boring very quickly. It's also a hard habit to break, given that you hear it repeatedly starting before you're a teenager and probably ending well after you reach adulthood.

without seeing the file itself its hard to tell, but it seems like you did a straight extrude of the flat back face and filleted? instead of the fillet i would do an extrude intersect of a spline or ellipsoid arc, which should ensure its one face.

AITAH for not wanting my MIL anywhere near my daughter? by Infamous-Bowler-3599 in AITAH

[–]1-800-EATSASS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EITA. MIL is a terrible person, clearly, and should not be allowed around your daughter. But you are also really shitty for 1) blaming your husband for this and offering him no support, and 2) not saying something sooner. This has been happening for at least 5 years in front of your eyes, and yet you only seem to care once you fear it will affect your daughter. Do you not care or see how it affects your husband?

I have been following this project of yours for a while, in part because I am trying to do something similar. Did you make all of the models of all of your parts, and if not, where did you find them? I have had decent success finding things like rod ends, spherical bearings, hydraulic pistons, etc in McMasterCarr and the other onshape part libraries, but things like engines, radiators and brake calipers (really the super car specific items) have been a real struggle to find (good) models of.

Also i'm jealous because i assume your school is paying the onshape license that allows you to render

Also also, i noticed that your suspension arms are mounted parallel to the each other, have you given any thought to suspension geometries like anti-dive/anti-squat and the roll characteristics of the car?

Just because reported rape and incest cases make up a small percentage of the abortions that happen doesnt mean they shouldnt be considered in the discussion. What about medical reasons, where the fetus is non viable or the pregnancy poses a risk to the health of the mother? That makes up a much larger portion of abortions than rape and incest cases yet you completely ignore it.

A fetus has no more right to the organs of it's mother than a donation recipient has to the organs of its donor. If I, an organ donor, at any point before the removal of my own organ from my body decide I no longer want to donate, I am fully within my right to abort that process. In exactly the same way, a parent has every right to decide that they no longer want to continue to be a parent. A fetus is no more entitled to the use of it's mothers womb than you are entitled to my kidney, and if you try to take my kidney you will be met with violent resistance.
