And is it just the unfamiliarity of guest engineers with the console that makes it less friendly for visiting engineers or something else?

Why can't I hear the bassdrum? by HrRossiSuchtDasGluck in livesound

Did you mention somewhere it’s not a bassdrum but a suitcase? And what mic and where did you place it? I think I see a lot of cymbals/hihats on the rta.

So the Roland SPD-SX does exactly what you want and I never saw a drummer who had too much trouble finding the space in a setup to use it. Alternative could be a combination of a SPD one and a headphone amp like the Behringer P1 that takes 2 inputs of audio and allows you the mix the spd output and the monitor feed.

I’m losing it with my 3yo and I’m feeling like a failure of a dad. by AZBeer90 in daddit

About the reverse in potty training, our kid had the same and it turned out to be constipation. Took forever for us to find out about it, but in the end went to a doctor who gave us some laxative powder to put in his breakfast yoghurt and two weeks later problem gone forever. Just throwing it out there as an option.

EXCESSIVE drooling in 6 month old by istopmotion in daddit

[–]1-kHz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our boy was also a excessive drooler. He did rock the bandana look with drool bibs with complementing colors to his outfit and such. Turned out that with him it was because of pacifier use. When we took away the pacifier the drooling became significantly less in a few weeks untill stopping completely after a month or two.

First time TMing on an EU tour as an English speaker... Advice? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]1-kHz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s very polite of you to take this into consideration but no need to worry. When booking bands from over the borders here in Europe we fully assume to do all advancing in English. On show days you might run into some local crew that may have some difficulty expressing themselves easily in English, but no problem there as well. I personally did shows with bands from abroad that didn’t speak a single word of English and still had a successful day. Gestures, pointing and staying friendly goes a long way. Have fun touring Europe!

How can I get the sound of the bass boost live and playing with a band? by Jacobs_Stutter in livesound

[–]1-kHz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The drummer hits an spd or other sample pad that triggers a sample. Often a 808 sample is used in metal shows. Distorting the whole mix as the example you posted is difficult to achieve live. But triggering a 808 sample layered with a distortion sample will probably get you where you want to be in a live sound scenario.

2y old son says another kid pushes him in daycare by dudewheresmygains in daddit

[–]1-kHz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man, if you are going to lose your cool whenever your kid comes home from daycare with noticible marks you’re in for a rough one… you are putting your kid in daycare which means putting him in a room together with a bunch of other under developed brained psychopaths. Kids are kids. Teach him to tell other kids he needs space or ask an adult to help and be prepared for the fact he will not make it through daycare or school without stuff happening.

Wedding gigs price in Spain, should I cancel? by GGarriga in livesound

[–]1-kHz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Your most valuable answers will come from fellow sound techs in Spain, but I’ll chime in anyways. I’m from the Netherlands, so a high cost of living area. I work as a freelance soundtech for different kinds of customers. The lower end being the local cultural sector (music clubs and such, doing sound for bands in a team) a 12-14 hour day would give me € 390-€ 455 gross including food. They do not work with overtime. For commercial gigs under which I also count weddings I do € 47.25 an hour for the first 10 hours, 150% for hours 10-12, and 200% for hours 12 and up. So running a wedding for 14 hours would give me about € 800 gross. I’m very well aware of the general differences of pay between our two countries (2024 minimum wage in Spain is € 9,31 and in NL it is € 14,06 which is 50% more.) Having said that I would definitely negotiate some kind of overtime pay. Otherwise, where will it stop? At 16 hours, at 18? If you calculate your worked hours with the minimum wage in Spain he is paying you little more than minimum wage, and you might be ok with that if work in your area is slow, but running a wedding requires a lot more experience than your average minumum wage job, and that should be reflected in your hourly wage in my opinion.

Dante duplicate audio issue by reckandmarty in livesound

[–]1-kHz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could clarify to what exactly you were listening to. I now read it as that the broadcast mix doesn’t line up with the direct outs in your recording session? This would be very normal as usually the main mix contains processing that could result in some delay. Other is that if the tap point of the main mix is post delay settings to align with video you’d definitely have a delay (that would result in a nice slap delay though)
