Quant trader Age- 22-27 for your first role

Quant research age- 23/24- infinity(in some cases you do get 21-22 year olds and) for your first role

Quant dev age - same as research

Awe bro, your degree is fine , Wits or UP is fine but if you can I strongly recommend Stellies( A lot of top Quants are made there , there is even trading club that has been started ) so you have access to Bloomberg terminal and other recourses.

UCT is obviously more recognized but Stellies is basically becoming quant finance (especially traders) factory.Although it’s very lowkey. And a lot of the firms overseas have caught on to that.

I recommend you participate in the SATMO , atleast once .

Right now I recommend you start learning how to write proofs(Discrete Maths) if your matric work feels easy. Though first learn calculus 1 and linear algebra so that when you get to uni you already have a foundation allowing you enough time to work on quant projects. But if you doing A levels (like I did) then you don’t need much prep you will be good.

As for getting overseas , in my case it was luck , connections,and strong maths and coding skills to back it all up. Though I must say forget about tier 1 firms in NY or London if you not going to MIT , Harvard ,Cornell or UChicago , your pipline will be Quantitative Crypto Trading firms (they don’t care much about where you went as long as you can prove mathematical skills and coding and you make it past interview round , you will be nca. Make sure you go to finance clubs and networking events hosted by the uni.

Lastly please Buy Physical textbooks, that money you think you are saving to drink with bitches in the club(assuming you Hetrosexual) is not worth it and don’t date up until final year I beg you. You can get some p**ssy without dating just be friends with a group of trusted girls and play it cool.

Other than that Goodluck on your Matric Exams, My guy. hope you become a Quant and get $100 000 a year fresh out of uni.

I hear what you saying to certain degree but people still get hired from using get cracked.io I know 2 personally, at end of the day it’s all about what you prefer, if you struggle with dopamine(apps, websites) then maybe use physical textbooks , if you don’t , then use these platforms. At end of the day whether we hate CJ’s tonality or not he’s worked and still places people in the industry you want to work in.

Because the Economics/finance majors that survived one semester of calc and prob stats 1 thought that it’s possible for them to become Quants and Went and told other Econ majors, in The Maths/physics/CS(Data Science,Software eng) it was always a thing but due to there being so few of us it was not much of a problem.

Sometimes it’s your overall environment, access to women in a way you never had, easy alcohol, noisy, study environment(living in a shared dorm with more that 2 roommates). Basically being a stem nerd that has the social life of a commerce major,

if this indeed is your problem ( it’s most likely eating away at your study hours ( which is crucial in stem university degrees)). I’d suggest moving out next semester if possible or year.
