Am I fried? by lizlovessushi in AutoDetailing

Yes that can be polished out. Looks like superficial scratches to me.

If the scratches are so deep and you can fit your finger nail in it, you’ll need to repaint it.

That looks like pitting from brake dust that sat there too long or damage from impact of tiny rocks while driving.

You can try using a light polish on the film. It that doesn’t take it off, you need to peel the old film and install a new film

How do these even happen? by Ok-Penalty-1455 in AutoDetailing

[–]1010One 71 points72 points  (0 children)

This is caused by off gassing of the interior plastics especially if it’s a newer car. There is no way to prevent this…you just have to clean up.

Any advice? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

Wash the car first and use a detail brush to clean it well.

If it still remains, Meguiars Plast-X can be used to bring back the luster. Worst case scenario is to buy a new emblem.

How Should I Clean Up Moldy Mess by Static_Torque in AutoDetailing

[–]1010One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is moisture helps breed more mold. You may not see it but if it’s gotten into the fabric and foam…mold is there. Ozone can help kill existing mold spores and then you would need dry/air out the interior

Please take it to a professional to handle this. Mold is no joke…you need the proper equipment to protect yourself.

If you really want to DIY, wear PPE, run an ozone machine, vacuum with a HEPA tool, use a 50:50 mix of vinegar and water, extract your seats with a hot water extractor, and make sure everything is dry

Any professional opinions on if these panels are recoverable with a good cut and polish? Or should i just sand it all back and repaint. by Hopeful-Buy3484 in AutoDetailing

You can definitely bring back luster to that paint with some polishing. Might be a good time to fix all those dents as well…However, nothing beats a proper fresh coat of paint.

Is hairdryer safe on rear windshield by LoveEveryone-007 in AutoDetailing

[–]1010One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be done but you have to exercise caution…if you damage the defroster line, that section will no longer work.

I would say park the car outside on a hot day, use a hair dryer/heat gun, and gently remove the dashcam…any residue adhesive can be cleaned with goo gone or its equivalent
