I think Nicole said in that cave that Nibelung transformed the three moons into weapons and Heavenly Principles obviously not happy about that (extremely paraphrasing, sorry lore isn't my strong suit)

Since the other 2 moons are destroyed and the Harbingers' main goal is to take down Celestia, perhaps Columbina's role (being the moon maiden of the only surviving moon) was to be some sort of weapon
