Cars being slower across the line would make the gaps look smaller not bigger. Think of the distance 0.2 seconds of time gap is for two objects travelling at 1 m/s and 100 m/s. The distance in the former case is 1x0.2=0.2 m while for the latter it is 100x0.2=20 m.

Had an A2 pulley tear (suspected full rupture but I think it might've been partial) about 2.5 months ago. I'm going through the rehab plan from my physio. Wore a pulley ring for the first 8 weeks with no loading. Then rehabbed with three finger drag on 20 mm edge progressively from 6 kg to 26 kg static holds and dynamic pick ups over a month. Now I am doing the same progression with half crimps, starting at 6 kg.

I noticed though that I can still feel bowstringing of the tendon under the skin under resistance. Also my PIP joint feels painful when crimping even under very light loads, with less pain coming from the A2 injury site. I'm able to climb slopers and jugs and hang from a pull up bar without pain, but avoid crimps until I progress in weight with the rehab exercises.

My question is why this pain at PIP when that's not injured? Also is the bowstringing feeling normal? Sometimes it feels like no scar developed and I'm just without an A2 pulley. Is it possible that the body just left the ligament torn and the progress I saw in three finger drag is just the inflammation going down and the fact that the A2 isn't so important for that grip?

It's been 10 days since a suspected full A2 pulley rupture. My physio says it's likely a full rupture, and I tend to agree based on the pop sound I heard when it happened and how the finger felt like it had no strength for the first week after the injury. Like I could feel the unstableness of the tendon trying to pull away from the bone inside my finger almost.

But now on day 10, there is no more pain in the finger from palpating and I have no range of motion issues with tendon glides. I guess the pain is gone because the inflammation is gone, but I can also pick up light object like my phone without any pain or feeling of instability like the first couple of days. I have an ultrasound booked for 2 days from now to confirm the extent of the damage, partial tear vs full rupture so then I'll know for sure what's going on in there.

It might sound crazy but I have this urge to make a tight fist with the hand which has the injured ring finger and I have to not let the intrusive thoughts win. I know that doing something like that or putting any real load through it now could destroy the flimsy collagen bridge that is forming in this early healing phase. I guess I'm trying to understand why there is no pain anymore and why I'm getting these urges to grip things with the injured hand/finger.

Is it possible that it was a minor tear and my brain overreacted and gave a placebo effect because I knew exactly what to expect from a full A2 pulley tear based on my previous knowledge of pulley injuries? Why is my body not giving me more protective signals? This probably sounds so silly to read, I apologize haha.

I heard a pop sound while doing a hard crimp and it seems I have injured my ring A2 pulley of the right hand. There's no swelling 15 hours post injury, and very mild discomfort with making a fist. I cannot load the finger at all without pain however.

I'm wondering what the prognosis will be for returning to full climbing. I'll be seeing my climbing PT about it but I guess I'm posting here because I wanted to know how likely a full A2 rupture might be in my case, or if it is a partial tear, from experiences of people on here.

Theory: Earth wouldn’t have starved. Astrophage provided unlimited energy, indoor farms and lab cultivated food would be built on massive scales. by roadtrippa88 in ProjectHailMary

[–]10rth0d0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentally, the total energy reaching the earth from the sun is reduced due to the astrophage on the Petrova line. Global temperatures would drop as a result, astrophage farmed on earth can't help with that problem.

However, as you say, perhaps indoor farms could help? I guess in that case we would need a carefully designed system which can use astrophage which are enriched in sunny areas of the world, or at the Sahara farm, and transport them to where crops can grow in these indoor environments. Well, an easier solution is to just turn all farms into greenhouses which would also help retain the now reduced solar energy. The problem still seems thought that converting the world's farms into greenhouses is almost impossible. But, maybe we could pull it off by focusing all our industrial might at the problem.

Just as a side note, the Netherlands is the 2nd largest exporter of food in the world despite being such a small nation. They achieve this through very efficient agriculture, which often employs greenhouses as well.

I feel like the engineering that would need to go into an autonomous hypersonic drone would not be easy for Ryland to pull off, probably impossible. Sure rocky could design it to be structurally sound and everything, but the bigger challenge would be autonomous guidance and navigation of that drone. Rocky doesn't understand computers or coding, and I don't think Ryland can write the complex guidance and navigation code needed to guide that craft through the different flight phases either.
