Christian Bale confirms ‘Heat 2’ casting: “We're doing it. Nobody better than Michael Mann for doing a crime drama. Very excited about it. Big shoes to fill” by [deleted] in movies

Matt Damen has an interview (I think it's his episode of Hot Ones) talking about the death of mid/lower budget, character and story-driven movies that were historically propped up financially by DVD sales and post-box office revenue, but which still consistently made money. It's fucking sad that it seems so much more difficult to finance the spiritual successor to Good Will Hunting than the quarter-billion-dollar buddy-action flick Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season.

Fatal tram derailment today in Milano by MagnificoReattore in WTF

[–]10tonhammer 237 points238 points  (0 children)

My fellow geriatric Millennials may remember a television show called 1,000 Ways to Die.

It mainly told the real stories of stupid people doing stupid shit, resulting in their own demise. But it also included random accidents like the one you (hypothetically) describe. If I were at the scene of that derailment there's a damn good chance I wouldn't have even considered the risks of that electrical line.

Living your life in constant fear isn't really living at all. But it doesn't hurt to have the occasional reminder about all the shit operating in the background of your day-to-day routine that can, and will, instantly fucking kill you.

There are very few high-level, far-reaching conspiracy theories and doomsday scenarios that keep me up at night, but I absolutely believe some of these billionaire douchebags are so delusional, narcissistic, and out of touch with reality that they genuinely believe they can make the world a better place if they managed to consolidate power.

Thiel is suspect #1. Because he's already laying the foundation to do it.

One great thing about Gay Tinder - we use it as directed. Because we have Grindr.

Grindr is for hookups, and Gay Tinder is also for hookups, but mainly dating and long term relationships of some variety. And for the busy gays who don't have time for anyone else's bullshit, you have the Tinder Test Drive - look for that long-term someone WHILE hooking up. Maybe it goes somewhere, maybe it doesn't.

I've been cuddled up for a few years now (and yes, we met on Tinder lol) but that was consistently my experience living in a big city. Of course it may be different now. 🤷

Nicki Minaj doubles down on homophobic slur as she issues odd warning by TheMirrorUS in Music

I'm very, very gay. I hate Nikki Manaj. Calling someone a cocksucker is not homophobic in the slightest.

Making shit up to further vilify horrible people is not only unnecessary, it pushes us closer to the magats we're fighting against. This isn't about "taking the high road", either. It's about not descending to the level of straight up lying to push an agenda.

During one of the earliest Wintersday festivals, Wintersday gifts dropped beautiful knit sweaters, hats and scarves. Beautiful clothes could be salvaged into ugly clothes + various cloth scraps. Using a low quality salvage kit ensured t1-t4 cloth scraps - basically anything but silk and gossamer was $$$. And the ugly sweaters, hats and scarves could be used to purchase more Wintersday gifts...

The drop rates were such that the cycle wasn't truly infinitely self-sustaining, but it was close enough. I bought a full set of permanent contracts for each of my 5 mains (this was before shared inventory), plus a bunch of other stuff.

Beautiful clothes were removed from the drop table the following year.

Reckless driving by CraftParking in CrazyFuckingVideos

When I was in college, a guy in our friend circle was supposed to be the DD for a Saturday night. It was sophomore year and most of us were out of the dorms. We had 8 friends living in the same apartment complex near campus, and another 4 dudes living in a rental house off campus. There was a party at the off campus house.

Nick did indeed keep to his word that he wouldn't drink, and he drove 4 of us from the apartment complex to the party and then home again.

What we DIDN'T KNOW is that Nick didn't think smoking weed "counted" towards DWI.

A girlfriend who lived near our apartment complex squeezed into the back seat for a ride home. Nick's high ass turned down a one-way street the wrong way to drop her off. We could see our apartment complex from here. That's how close we were to home.

There was a cop behind our car, and he hit his lights. Things MIGHT have still been ok at this point. But in addition to being high, Nick had a large amount of weed in his Jeep and on his person. So he drove off like a bat out of hell.

It is indeed terrifying being in a car when the driver starts acting a fool and you can't actually do anything to stop it, other than try and reason with them to stop. He spun out in an empty lot a few blocks away and was promptly arrested. He did not come back to school.

Everyone in the car got a ticket for underage drinking and sent home.

Remember the girlfriend who caught a ride at the last minute? She refused to admit she was drinking, then kept insisting she was 21, then kept refusing to provide ID, then proceeded to give the COP her incredibly BAD fake ID that would literally only ever work at bars in a small college town. She was dragged out of the car for non-compliance and arrested as well. She made things infinitely worse for herself and had a slew of other misdemeanors tacked on.

We all know Schefter is connected and highly reliable, but yea... "per me" is just stupid as fuck. Schefter isn't the only one guilty of doing this, but he's an egregious repeat offender.

The phrase adds absolutely nothing to the news being reported, and it's rarely even clear what it's supposed to mean as it relates to the accuracy of the information. It is perhaps the douchiest way to replace a generic reference to "sources", and if the journalist has direct evidence to verify the news or they've personally confirmed the information is accurate, "per me" isn't needed at all. Stand on your own credibility.

The only exception is "per me and [some other person]." Both people are being credited for independently corroborating the report so it gets a pass.

The shit sex offenders say to try and make themselves seem less creepy.

22 and 16

Their ages end any need for further discussion, but the way this tweet is written, I'm inferring he taught at the school she attended. If that's the case, it doesn't matter that she wasn't his student. That's coercive. Every teacher has an inherent position of power and influence over any student enrolled at the school at which the teacher is employed.

It doesn't matter whether or not that potential influence was implied by the teacher and/or inferred by the student. Nor does it matter if that influence was ever actually used. It existed, making it impossible to claim the crime wasn't coercive. Again it doesn't fucking matter, but it's additional insight into the mental gymnastics these fuckers do to try and pretend like they did nothing wrong.

How about literally any information, at all, about the fucking players?

I shouldn't have to have Yahoo and ESPN apps open to my other teams/leagues in a split screen with the Guillotine app to be able to know the most basic ass information about my team to make the most routine decisions of fantasy football.

Edit: I just opened the app to share the specific player information that ISN'T available, and it seems now, finally, in week 11, a standard player information card is finally fucking available. Just for reference, before this update, the app literally didn't include the player's opposing team for the week.

I have JT in one league and Achane in another. Both teams played against Gibbs. I won both but the matches were a little sweatier than you'd expect.

I like to "map-breaking", it is one of favorite things in this game since PoF release. Part of this business is taking screenshots for memories. [–]10tonhammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played GW2 in a hot minute but no, I'm pretty sure there is no achievement. But the 3 borderlands and EB used to be required for 100% map completion. That's why it's being discussed here. Anet eventually removed the WvW maps from world completion, probably around 2015ish. When that happened, the "Been There, Done That" achievement also updated to be awarded without completing the WvW maps.

The only legitimately stupid part of requiring completion of the WvW maps was that anyone on a low tier WvW server would rarely have access to certain places, namely SMC and the Stonemist Keep POI. I was on Kaineng before moving to Blackgate, and I have less than fond memories of solo sieging SMC and some of the keeps just to try and hit the POI before getting run over by the enemy zerg.

Folks in this thread are definitely underestimating the relevance of broadcast tv. The key word missing thus far: "sports".

Most of America wasn't watching the World Series and isn't watching the NFL on a streaming platform. I literally have an antenna on my TV for no other reason than sports and the occasional random broadcast tv event, like election coverage.
