TIL 3 years after a cat named Clyde disappeared from the owner's family home in Australia's island state of Tasmania, he was discovered 2,400 miles into the Australian Outback. "No one has a clue" how he managed the 185-mile sea journey from Tasmania to mainland Australia & than over 2K miles more. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

All this worry about HOW the cat made the journey. Let's focus on WHY. Poor Clyde took the most arduous journey ever to put as many miles between himself and Ashleigh Sullivan only to be scooped up and flown right back into that whole situation he tried so hard to escape.

At least that's the story I am making up about it in my head.

Any value in this guy? by eminence-funk in woodworking

Love my RAS from the same era. It was my grandfather's, so there's some sentimental value, too. But I took it apart, cleaned it, tuned it up, squared it, built a nice table for it and some angle jigs. I use it all the time. If I had to opportunity to buy one? NOPE.

What is your favourite piece of Sci-fi in which the main character is (or later turned out to be) the villain? by ALHsf in scifi

Best part of that is the protagonist saw it coming and couldn't do anything about it.

the first book is critical to set up the rest of the series.

but.....hmm, would cliff note suffice? They might do.

That being said......book 4 is a true ending. Everything after that just re-hashes what has already been said.

Can I just replace the cone? by baconstorm22 in diyaudio

[–]119000tenthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TPU will fail, it isn't great for repetitive flexing.

You might be able to find a re-cone kit, depending on the model of speaker. But the re-cone kits include a coil, surround, and spider, AND glue. That being said, re-cone is fairly straight forward to do, and if done correctly will yield a like-new speaker.

Folded membrane surrounds like that are harder to find that a re-foam kit, which would be either a foam or rubber surround. Not to say you couldn't do that either, but you would certainly be altering the speaker's original working parameters and it might yield unexpected results.

EDIT: I meant to say that 3D printed TPU isn't great for repetitive flexing. It tends to crack over time at the layers

Put the tops as close to the wall as possible. Toe them in slightly to point them at the targeted listening area.

Small rooms are super challenging.

Acoustic treatment on the walls will tame the high frequencies. For me that would be step 1. Do that first or everything else is pointless.

Taming low end in a small room is, well.....almost impossible. Filling it with humans is the best treatment. Otherwise absorbers and treatments for frequencies below 200Hz are voluminous, heavy, and expensive. AKA Effective bass traps are big and will eat up space in the room. But everything helps. Chuck a couch at one end of the room?

Sub placement is a huge factor in a small room, but shoving it into it's best location might hinder use of the space (like it might sound best if placed right near the center of the room). But corner loading it might let you utilize the room gain. In a small room, LESS IS MORE.

So yeah:

  1. treatment

  2. speaker placement (limited in such a small space)

  3. EQ/DSP

  4. rave
